More than anything, I think having coaches come in who have
confidence and are on a run is the best thing for us. As a club,
we seem to have lost that in the last couple of seasons.

I was slightly concerned we might be getting Keir Starmer with
him announcing his stepping down from his currently unsuccessful
coaching job just before our new coach was announced.

I've been thinking about the lineout recently. I think part of
our problem is we really only had one genuinely excellent
lineout guy - Lewies - and the difference with him around was
stark. We have a lot of grunty locks who weren't all that at
lineout time, and we rely heavily on backrowers, none of whom
are specialists. Kenners, Dombrandt (RIP :( ), CCS all take a
lot - CCS especially - but you'll never convince me any of them
are worth a Lewies (or a Coles or a Chessum) at lineout time.
I think it's possibly a side effect of feeling like we lack
go-forward... we've maybe underestimated the importance of
lineout specialists.
Could be wrong, just some idle thoughts

Not me guv, I said Cooper's record was pretty short (2 Soup
seasons, a bit of time with Taranaki and the U20s) and that it
was hard to read much into the semi final specifically as the
win was based on massive blokes running straight into and
through people.
Can't argue with that final result and there's no doubt they've
been tearing it up, I'm a little cautious about his inexperience
but he's an attack coach not a head coach, and we often sign
coaches with little or no experience and far too many of them
moving on from a bad experience...
This could be as impactful as Nick Evans joining us as a player.

Guido is an excellent lineout operator who well still have next
season, but I do largely agree

I wonder if Robbie Deans was able to help with this signing?

It’s a mystery given we upset ‘Tabs’ so much that no southern
hemisphere coach could possibly ever want to come to Quins ever
again. (Gilmore, Bocking, Deans, Cooper).

I don't watch much super rugby but sounds like a good signing.
Good to see some positive intent

Yeah, he is good.
I look at Saints and I see Kemeny and Coles as superb lineout
operators. We have some guys who take a lot of ball (Kenners,
CCS, Dombrandt) but we don't seem to have much of a plan on
opposition ball when Lewies isn't around. I hope we can develop
that. With Dombrandt crocked for at least part of next season,
it's a great opportunity for CCS + Kenningham to really kick on
at lineout time on opposition ball.
On our ball, we're going to need a serious improvement on the
coaching side.
