Charlie Morgan, much like me, is very fond of the idea of Ted
Hill. Unfortunately I think the reality is he's a guy who can
spend large parts of matches just... there. Not really doing
much. Huge bloke with great power, surprising pace, huge engine,
all that jazz, and he very often just doesn't make the most of
it. He is by no means a bad player and is sometimes a very good
one, but all that talent means I'm just a bit disappointed by
how many times he plays and the game kinda passes him by.

I think my pack against SA would be
1. Genge
2. George
3.Heyes
4. Coles
5. Martin
6. Chessum
7. Earl
8. Pollock
Chessum has the engine/grunt and line out options to succeed as
a 6.

After about 8,000 coming off the bench to support Hartley.
That's pretty different to Langdon's 4 caps at all.

The real question is, what is gained from playing LCD in this
series? We know what he's about. I get you have a vested
interest in backing LCD, but from an England perspective this
series is the perfect time to try someone at least off the bench
who could potentially be then required last minute for the RWC
should there be injuries etc...plus he's earnt it with
consistent good form.

I’m not actually backing LCD - more England. And with that
context, I’m trying to understand the thinking behind the
decisions.
Had we continued the successes of 2025, I agree that there may
be more experimenting on this tour. The reality however is that
this is a competition and England (/Borthwick) need
performances. My take therefore is that he is picking the squad
he thinks will do as well as possible rather than thinking of
the future.
I’d also add that in the past, England coaches have written off
tours/competitions with a view to building for the World Cup.
And have faced criticism as a result.

Actually, 17 subs appearances for a total of 377 minutes, so
averaging 22 minutes a game. Langdon has 165 minutes from 4 caps
(2 starts) for an average of 41 minutes a game, plus 2 England A
appearances for another 85 minutes.
Given he also has literally years more experience of top level
rugby than George did when the Lions started him for the first
time, I don't think the extra 200-odd minutes of cameos really
makes much difference here

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, Jamster.
I'm not sure I'll ever agree that 2 starts against the USA and
bench spots v Canada and Argentina prepares you for taking on
the Big Beasts as much as bench spots throughout the 6N, Aus
tour, and AIs.
In the latter case, a coach has already seen what a player can
do against numerous Tier 1 nations - albeit for 20-30 minute
stints.
I really like Langdon (and think we should've kept him instead
of Ashman) but I just can't agree that he has anything like the
experience George had before the '17 Lions.

You're discounting the, what, decade of experience? The titles,
the champions cup matches?
I really don't see how it makes any sense to rule out an
experienced and successful player in the prime of his career on
the basis of it being an away tour. It's not like he's some
neophyte. We've got a teenage winger going after all

It’s not because it’s an away tour. It’s because it’s a
meaningful game and the oppo.
