Can someone explain to me how a converted Try can make 8 points?
Think they discovered a penalty infringement while the Try was
being scored but I always thought the Pen happened AFTER the
conversion, not INSTEAD of it?

What's this in reference to?
If there's a penalty that is awarded on top of a try being
scored (which is super rare), it's taken from halfway AFAIK. So
the 8 points would be a missed conversion but a scored penalty.

Has to be malicious foul play after the ball is grounded, and as
said above is taken from the half way line, most referees don’t
seem to bother giving this sort of penalty, you do see a number
of cheap shots on the try scorer go unpunished.

Highlights must have shown a penalty then and the very simple
conversion must have been missed

If this is the Stormers game from the weekend, it was never 8-0.
The opening try was converted for 7-0, then 10-0 after a pen,
13-0 after another, then 13-5 after an unconverted Stormers try.
Edit: the conversion was in the 8th minute... any chance you got
the clock and the score mixed up? As Quins fans I know we're at
risk of that fairly often...
