My concern is the lack of players with a bit of bite to them.
We are very ‘friendly, across the pitch. Guido has something
about him but that’s about it. Being big doesn’t mean much
without a bit of fire. Andre/Wilco/Marler/Lewies/Herbst could
all snarl a bit when needed. Not sure where our enforcers come
from looking at next season. Maybe Sampie. Not seeing much
else.

We really need a Fijian type powerhouse on the wing over Isgro

We need as ever a big nasty lock. A big nasty 6 would be
acceptable as an alternative.

T. Green got another year left in contract and personally
doesn't want to move. Hayden Hyde is off to Ealing he said his
was purely he wanted more game time which i completely respect.
Lawday is calling time on rugby and heading the coaching route
(probably similar to how Horwill/Roberts went playing some
rugby)
For me personally Benson was the one that hurt the most, Ulster
has got a good one there and Irish elig so wont be surprised if
we see him in the squad

I'm struggling to understand some of the comments. How can it
possibly be a good idea to have no proper second choice 10?
Losing Benson and Jev and relying on two unproven players and
furbank filling in seems like madness. I'd suggest slevin might
have featured more by now if he was a viable option.
However much we might fawn over SA and Rassie, swiegers has no
pedigree at all. He's not currently with a top club and has been
called up to one training camp, then not invited back.
Dun is being talked of as a likely starter when his career to
date suggests otherwise.
Basically, furbank is a star signing. The other two are
realistically back ups. Otherwise we've lost some decent
players, some players who were good but are now past their best,
absolutely some squad filler.
Hopefully the young guys who've had lots of game time this
season can continue their promising trajectories

I dont think that we have a bad squad. The talent is there.
The key issues for me is the coaching set up and the culture at
the club.
Robbie Deans if he is involved enough may be the man to solve
both these issues

Dun has played a lot of minutes for Bristol this year. Not a
star name but I think its a smart bit of business. He's 26 so
entering his peak years, and he's a big unit whilst still being
mobile enough to play 6. It's a good profile/fit for us I feel.
I've never seen Swiegers play. Apparently Tigers, Sale and
Saints were all looking at him too. Whether that means they
decided to pass or we beat them to it, who knows. Its a bit of a
gamble by all accounts but with neither Titi or Williams moving
on this year, it's a roll of the dice probably worth taking
given budget limitations. I expect Delgado to be first-choice
tighthead next year and then it's anyone's guess after that.
If we do have one more big signing up our sleeve then I hope
it's at hooker. If not, we need Riley to become a consistent
performer week in, week out, and/or Walker to get his form of
two to three years ago back.
The biggest influence on our success next year might be Rob
Hunter. He's got a lot in his in-tray.

Dun was 4th choice at Bristol at the start of the season, got a
lot more playing time this year because of injuries, I see him
as more of a bench player than a starter.

In a salary cap league you have to be weaker somewhere.
Attrition at 10 is lower than in most or all other positions, it
would seem. And salaries at 10 are higher than all other
positions. Having a quite exciting academy olayer as a backup to
Marcus wouldn’t be a bad place to be if we view Furbank as a
15/10. Saracens did it for years with Farrell, Goode and the
young Vunipola chap.
Obviously it would be nice to have 2 established players in
every position, but if we need to rely on academy players in
some positions then backup 10, for me, is definitely a viable
one.
Theres also the development angle. Bellamy looks like he could
be good. Let’s not block his development with another journeyman
backup.
