Is playing for LS a great endorsement? Although he did play Prem
cup I think and looked to be a good future option.

Furbank aren't around?

Because his form has fallen off for Quins, and he's been edged
more and more out of the England squad, so that he's now clearly
3rd choice for 10. I don't see him regaining his form until
Quins do.

I’m pretty sure a year ago I was told that Ford’s England days
were numbered. He’d fallen behind the Smiths in the 2025 6N and
was already an old man.

That's why my post included an "if". You can't deny that
currently Marcus's form is poor. He's not doing what he used to.
Even his kicks to touch, for instance, where he used to aim for
the 5m line exactly now land closer to the 22. His confidence
and form seem to have taken a battering. If (there it is again)
Quins regain some form and he does too, he could be in
contention for the England 10 jersey again.

The question is whether this year’s (relatively modest) crop of
leavers, less the salary increases for renewals and new hires,
has left enough cap space to bring in the players they want.
Add to that that the youngsters coming through have looked
pretty good, and you can see the club biding its time in terms
of who it tries to hire in.

Of course it is.
Multiple DoRs (and not just Quins ones) have said that it takes
multiple seasons to rebuild a squad as a new DoR, because
players are on 2 and 3 year contracts and you can’t just sack
players mid contract (at least not if you want to attract anyone
to play for your club).
This stuff is really not that hard to understand if you pay a
little bit of attention to what the people who actually manage
rugby clubs tell us about the process. Seek first to understand
and all that.
But hey, you do you. Keep sneering on, if that’s what makes you
happy.
