Pretty strong statement from Mike on Planet Rugby
“It feels, without getting into too much detail, I’ve been
erased from the place

Great player for us and England. Treated very shabbily.
But I think he needs to let it go, he's coming across as quite
needy and I'm really not sure what it is the club is supposed to
be getting from him.

Maybe a few of them hit home. But let’s go through it, talk
about it.

Danny [Care] and Ugo [Monye] on TV, are saying what we are. To
actually sit down and go through the points.

This is silly stuff. Yes Mike, they are happy to get Robbie
Deans in an official role instead of asking Ugo, Danny, and you
to come in and help out and share your knowledge. That is
exactly the case. For obvious reasons.
And it's not like they need to get him in to find out what he
thinks. He's explained it in great detail on LinkedIn, after
all.
It's a weird combination of a plea for a job, understandable
bitterness over how his career here ended, and stating the
bleeding obvious.

Clearly still feels he needs to be relevant. Maybe they don't
want to hear all of the "honest opinions" he has got because it
not always helpful. Maybe just make the offer and move on till
you heat otherwise.

I get it can be hard when you've been part of something for a
long time to be no longer needed, but he's not a coach, and
neither is Danny or Ugo. I'm sure they have opinions, but the
coaches don't need lots of people's opinions. They need
expertise like Deans can offer.

He'll always be a part of the club's history. They just don't
want him as part of the present.

I can’t imagine why the club don’t want to bring someone in at a
difficult time who keeps mouthing off in public (and has almost
no coaching experience). Great player but doing a degree in
sports management or whatever it was really doesn’t mean the
world dances to your tune.

Mike is one of my all time favourite players for Quins over the
years but I agree this is seeming very needy. I get that the
treatment hurt and was not handled in the right way, but I’m not
sure what he’s trying to achieve by this.

Yes absolutely agree.
My favourite Quins player.
He was treated badly at the ended but he needs to stop wanting
to be the centre of attention and get on with it.

I wonder if he's trying to get Quins on his business CV? Maybe
he's not getting any offers and needs to kick start his new
career.

He would like some sort of role at Harlequins, but they are not
interested, as he has little coaching experience and a lot of
views that are from the past.
His answer seems to be to write ever more critical comments
about the club and still saying he would like to have some
input, loose cannon comes to mind.
Realistically the last thing we need is more consultants, and
that is what he would be, Danny and Ugo have switched into being
pundits, he has gone to a school and a lower league club to
coach, which is a low visibility way of developing his career,
but he still wants the limelight, he was a great servant to the
club, and the end of his Harlequins days left a lot to be
desired.
He just needs to let it go, and move on.
