Edit: I'm referring to that RFU article about blocking Ealing
from joining the URC. It's 4 months older than the article this
thread is based on.

RFU will block it, same as they would for Irish. They did the
same when Scottish wanted to join the 'Super 6'
Not sure what the appeal is for the URC anyway - without
considerable further investment they would be the whipping boys
of the tournament - Ealing are the stand out in the championship
but a million miles off a Leinster or a Glasgow. Tiny fanbase in
an area with little room to grow.
If theres any truth to it, probably Ealing trying to push the
RFU to let them up - but their threat has little to no bite. If
they really wanted promotion, they would move to a ground share
or somewhere theyd meet the requirements. Owners never seem to
want to consider that and seem happy to be a big fish in a small
pond.

They are a strange bunch, i say that because they are next door
to me, their owner is elderly and is very attached to the
present ground, which was GWR's sports club before he purchased
it.
They bought the site in 1998, I purchased my house in 1988, so
have been in the area longer than them.
You can't go above 6000 capacity as there is only one access
road, a 10000 capacity ground needs two, one side is a railway,
the back is two schools and the front a housing estate worth 8
figures, and the other side £1m plus houses, so even a owner
worth £400m, could not afford to buy the land for a second road.
The line they have used has been that you could play premier
league football at the ground and that they are not in debt and
could afford to play in the prem.
Even though my road joins onto Vallis way and i live 2 minutes
away, you don't notice them as they have a gate of around 2000.
I dropped into Hoover building Tesco's today, and was wearing a
Harlequins cap, and was acosted by a Trailfinders fan, who
explained that the entire Prem was a closed shop that exsisted
just to protect it's members, and that they would thrash us, i
just said that i was only here because my wife had sent me to
buy a yellow pepper, and they have a good selection of beer, but
that having watched them a number of times suspect even NRB
would beat them.
Not the first time it has happened to me, I go there to watch
PWR matches if we are playing or if my daughter is back from
Loughborough, and that crowd is completly different.
The mens fans seem to believe that they are hard done by, and
that seems to be a message from the top.
