I don't hate it as a depth signing at LH. Working under the
assumption that Els and Kerrod will probably be leaving, we'll
have...
LH:
Baxter - 24
Hobson - 23
Wenger - 23
Turner - 24
(Clarke - 22)
(Miller - 19)
TH:
Delgado - 28
Swiegers - 27
(Streeter - 19)
Williams - 34
(Doak - 22)
(Bland - 18)
When you see them listed like that, the depth is there... it's
just a case of getting them off the physio benches. It does feel
like the production line has been addressed in this area when
you look at the age profiles across the board.
Baxter commands a salary beyond his years and starts whenever
available, but the rest of those LH options feel like a decent
set of backups to provide regular rotation. Hobson has looked a
cracking player this season. Obviously there are question marks
around Wenger but hopefully he can get fit and show us what he's
about - he's an international after all. Turner has played a
decent amount of Champ rugby whenever not on loan to Prem clubs,
so hopefully he can make the step up and be a solid squad
option. Clarke had a taste of mostly grass in recent senior
outings (e.g. against Du Toit) but playing against that calibre
of player can only do his development the world of good -
hopefully he can bulk up a bit and add further depth.
At TH, Streeter has played enough first team rugby to be treated
as senior competition for Delgado and Swiegers, who I'm sure
will be the two vying for the 3 shirt more often than not.
Williams will presumably be a body for one more year until
Streeter signs an early senior contract. Matt Ferguson was
raving about Sam Bland, who will hopefully be the next cab off
the rank in years to come... I imagine Doak will be lucky to get
a look in, but 22-year-old props can often bulk up over an off
season and look a completely different beast.
You could argue one more senior "swing" player who can play both
LH and TH would make things more comfortable (and maybe Kerrod
will stay for one more season in this role) but with the idea
being to decrease squad size and increase quality, I'd be happy
with the above gaggle of props going into next season.
Just PLEASE sort out the S&C.

Titi just hasn't worked out. Best for all parties that he moves
on.
As articulated by TBQ, it's about getting the best out of what
we have. We've just haven't seen enough of Delgado and Wenger
but as Argentina internationals they've both clearly got
pedigree.
Swiegers sounds like a bit of a wildcard signing. Hopefully it
turns out to be a genius move.

Does seem to specify that it is until the end of the season, but
would be strange if he has been released from his contract for a
short term gig (unless it was expring anyway?):

I think that was just an evil Doncaster rumour, probably brought
about by being the only champ club to pass the promotion
criteria but not to be able to afford it.
