No wonder that the Stoop is now half empty for Prem fixtures,
given that they are now just glorified friendlies, and we all
know how popular those are (not). It will, sadly, be fascinating
to see how empty HQ is next week. Just shows that Quins'
popularity evaporates quite quickly if the team and the coaching
appear to be low down the priority list.

The Prem is gone is a fact. We can't win the thing. Doesn't mean
we've given up trying to win games.
Or would it be better if he'd said we're still going to try and
win the title when mathematically we can't get into the top 4?

I believe the quote was given by Gilmore some time before
Christmas (or maybe January this year - someone will correct me
I'm sure). At that point, the top 4 was inconceivable given how
we were playing but not mathematically impossible. However you
look at it, he shouldn't have said it - and he admitted as much,
to be fair.

Unhappy Gilmore said this straight after Big Game, then the
following week was pack peddling furiously on it in the lead up
to the next game.

Telling the truth in a very blunt way is usually not a good
idea, something along the lines of we will try to get as much
benefit as we can from the remaining games to make us a better
team next year would have been better.
If he had been captain of the Titanic, he would have probably
told the passengers, we hit a huge iceberg because we were going
too fast and didn’t see it, we have popped the rivets of the
side of the ship and are bound to sink, we don’t have enough
lifeboats for the passengers, and the second officer has
misunderstood the women and children first protocol and won’t
let any men or female crew in the boats on the port side, so
they will be launched half full and the water temperature means
you will only survive for 15/30 minutes and no ships will get
here in time.
But apart from that, we are doing well.

on performances.

Does this count as a positive spin.
“We’ve brought in new insights, especially in attack and at the
breakdown – areas that have been stumbling blocks in the last
couple of seasons, at least at the start of the season. It’s not
to say these guys are better than Deacs, but fresh impetus is
what we’ve needed, and that’s been felt by me, but the best
feedback has been from the returning internationals. There’s an
excitement about what the future could hold with the coaching
staff that we have now.”

different club.
