I must admit the price is the reason I have only watched the
coverage after it appears on YouTube - other streaming services
are available.
A quick check shows the most popular video on YouTube has 18k
views - so not setting the world alight.

Clubber is decent for a very niche audience.
I use it for watching the scottish away games i cant make - i
pay per game so maybe 6/7 games a season total. For me - a
tenner is an alright price to pay for an away game that would
cost me 10x that to actual attend. Equivalent price of a few
pints. Dont pay the per month fee cause I dont have time/the
interest in watching any other games.
Id imagine a lot of clubber viewers are the same - effectively
champ rugby fans using it as a pay per view for games they cant
make for whatever reason. Which is an incredibly niche market,
but better than what we had before (nothing)

Ok you have made your point! How about reversing the psychology
and giving anyone who buys an international ticket a 5 game
package discount on Prem/Grassroots that is optional?

The biggest jeopardy at the moment is central funding.
The RFU want to spend £600m to turn themselves into a concert
venue management company - that occasionally hosts rugby.
If they do not get permission for the concerts, they still need
to spend £200m fixing the mistakes of the past. Some of which
were possibly not foreseeable.
And in ten years time, they will need to start planning the next
round of refurbishments.
Currently, professional rugby gets £65m split between the cost
of running the international teams, the ten pro sides with £1.5m
going to the Champ.
And £30m goes to the rest of the game.
The Union does not have reserves of that size, as far as I can
tell the value of the debentures roughly equals the book value
of the patch.
It lost £40m last year which put a hole in the reserves.
So, if Richmond council does permit concerts, the RFU will need
to spend the majority of its time selling the stadium to music
promoters, as it needs those concerts to pay off the
refurbishment cost. And it is in a bidding war against the other
stadia in London and festival venues in the South East.
And if it doesn't, it looks to be well stuffed. With significant
extra costs and no extra income.

Most people that own a stadium, would look to use it for
concerts, if Richmond don't give permission to use the stadium
for more than the 3 events allowed at present, the RFU will look
to move.
The RFU want to reduce the payments to the prem clubs, but that
will be difficult, as their revenue stream is based on the prem
players.
The WRU get a lot of income from concerts, the IRFU have income
from football and the stadium is a seperate company jointly
owned.
Richmond council have a hard choice to make regarding allowing
more concerts or not, but losing the venue would have a huge
impact on local economy, and the Ted Lasso effect won't last
forever.
Having a huge stadium you can't use, outside of rugby is not
viable, would Spurs have built their stadium if the local
authority were like Richmond.

For Prem that would probably work, but Quinky would get upset.
For grass roots it's not just about getting them to go watch
their local club but also about getting them involved with
playing, coaching, organising, etc, and people are far more
likely to do that if their kids are keen. Something more family
oriented there might be a plan.

The alternative is to find a sporting tenant, who could play
there every week. Which worked well before - but then the
facilities were a lot more basic, so it cost less to open.
I believe that the costs are such that we now need £40k in the
Big Stoop to equal 10k at home - but some of that is because we
lose the food and drink income.
But, if there were to be another London franchise, could the RFU
get them to play at the patch?

I thought that there had been some discussion around Chelsea
using it, while Stamford bridge is redeveloped, but Richmond
said no.
Even if someone wants to have a London franchise, would they
want to play so close to us, and the stadium would be very big
for a club, if you built a new club stadium now, it would
probably be 25/30k capacity, and in London I suspect a Racing 92
type stadium would be the ideal, again that size venue could
house lots of other events and be very profitable as there would
be no other venue like it.

Jams, that doesn’t really help the clubs that don’t have M&Y
sections. For context, of the 10 teams in our league this
season, I think 2 have kids’ sections.
Particularly in and around London, there are a plethora of
one-team clubs; often run out of shared pitches with post-match
refreshments in a pub.
