Forward passes could definitely be done with a chip or video.
Grounding with a chip. Offside not yet as too many people to
analyse. Would absolutely be prohibitively expensive though.

Not sure a chip would conclusively prove a grounding. Forward
passes, well, we were told a few years ago that the tech was
being trialled, but I guess that didn't work out.

Most yes… but, you heard Healey recently? He spends half the
game questioning every reffing decision. Often wrongly!

It was trialled at the JRWC (in 22 or 23, IIRC) and it seemed to
work well from a technical point of view. There were fewer
forward passes called, and more not straight lineouts.
But I suspect that what it actually showed was that the
difference in the accuracy of refs’ calls was marginal enough
that it wasn’t cost effective to roll it out.
And, once again for those who can’t get their head around it,
the speed a ball can be passed and the speed a player can run
are both ~10m/s.
The forward speed of the ball will be the [speed of the player]
- [the backwards component of the speed of the pass]. Since
players don’t pass the ball directly backwards, the maximum
backwards component for a player moving at speed will always be
less than the forward momentum they impart to the ball by
running.
The ball ALWAYS goes forward, but sometimes a pass looks more
forward than others, which is why the most reliable measure is
looking at the hands.

Its not that I can't get my head round it, its just that in my
day the backs were very rarely running fast enough for
"momentum" to come into the issue. Think of what I am saying as
a backwards banana pass rather than a flat pass that bananas
forward.

You can clearly see that the player who catches the ball is in
ultimately ahead of the passing player.
