OT: Is anybody else having problems accessing the board?

I keep getting a message that the website is unaccessible, check
web address. This has occurred several times over the Bank
Holiday. Just very frustrating - almost as bad as Quins :)

Apparently the hosting site, which hosts a number of forums, has
been under attack from malicious bots!

Na, the servers are much like the team. Struggling to cope with
basic demands

Also - the "WAP" version of the site seems to have disappeared.
(I know, the WAP version looked like something from the 1990s -
but it did work really well on a mobile)

WAP was something from the 1990s, well 1999.
The need for internet to WAP gateways was a source of income for
the company I was working for at the time, which made
cryptographic accelerators. That is they did the maths that made
sure a website showed a closed padlock. Or these days a shield
with a tick.
Although it had issues, WAP was designed to cope with displays
on the basic phones of the time.
A modern phone is now far more powerful than a high-end desktop
computer of the period. So most do not need to degrade to WAP.
As an example for how much more powerful computers are, the
product we launched in 1997, which was the size of a 5.25" disk
drive, is now outperformed by one that take a square millimetre
of silicon in the corner of a chip.
Your phone may say it has eight cores, but that is just the
A-class cores that run the programmes you see. It does not count
all the microcontrollers doing specialist tasks behind the
scenes.

On the WAP version, there were no adverts and when you clicked
on NEW messages, it went to the new messages. ( The other mobile
version only goes to the last page and then you have to work out
which are the new messages.)
So, although it didn't look great, the WAP site was better
functioning.

I put a lot of work into trying to make this desktop version
work on mobiles/tablets. Certainly the "New" button works fine.
But I hadn't realised we dropped off the WAP option.
Unfortunately I have to go back to the previous interface to
find that, so I will try and restore it but it may be a day or
two.
