I mean, if he turns out to be as good as one of the best 10s
this league has ever produced, I'd be thrilled!

Oooh, Jams. We could go very OT here and debate Charlie v Ford.
       Cipriani wasn't bad.
Although according to Never Sleep, it'd just be me arguing with
       myself

       Now official:
  HTML https://www.quins.co.uk/article/benson-to-join-ulster-rugby
Harlequins can confirm Jamie Benson will depart at the end of
the season to pursue an opportunity with Ulster Rugby.
Benson, who is Irish-qualified, will move to Belfast at the end
of the 2025/26 season, having currently made 38 appearances for
Harlequins since graduating from the Academy in summer 2021.
The former Cambridge University fly-half combined his Senior
Academy years with education at the prestigious university, for
which he featured in three Varsity matches, before breaking into
the Quins First Team squad in the 2024/25 campaign.
Benson is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and is
expected to return to fitness before the end of the 2025/26
       season.
On his time at Harlequins, Benson said: “Harlequins is, and
always will be, a special Club to me. Since joining the academy
aged 13, it has truly felt like home. I am incredibly grateful
to the Club and to all those who have helped me over these past
       10 seasons.
“The decision to leave has not been one I have taken lightly. I
have always been driven to consistently test myself to play at
the highest level and to pursue the goal of playing
international rugby. I feel I am at a critical point in my
career and that now is the right time for me to move in order to
       pursue these personal ambitions.
“My full focus remains on finishing this season as strongly as
possible and continuing to play at my best for this Club, right
until the very end of the season.
“I would like to sincerely thank all the Harlequins fans who
have supported me, and the team, throughout my time here. I
leave with lifelong memories and immense pride in having been
       part of this Club.”
Head Coach, Jason Gilmore said: “Jamie is a good player and team
man who has contributed to some big moments in my time at the
       Club.
“Throughout this process Jamie has been transparent with us
around his ambitions to play international rugby, and we respect
his decision to step outside of his comfort zone and test
       himself in a new environment.
“Jamie remains committed and focused to Harlequins for the
remainder of the season, and we wish him well in his next
       chapter with Ulster Rugby.”

Disappointing, i really really rate JB, but if he is chasing
international rugby through Irish heritage (where I assume he
feels he has slightly less of a queue ahead of him) then i
suspect there wasn't an awful lot we could have done on this
occasion. If JEv is also off, that leaves Josh Bellamy, who I am
a big fan of, then Conor Slevin. Wondering if we may look at a
bridging option at 10. If we ever actually secure the Furbank
deal he ofc covers 10, but will be more than likely unavailable
at the same time as Marcus.

Sorry that he is leaving, but was probably looking at who is
ahead of him and their age, Marcus is a far better player and
only 27, and some very good younger players behind him, and
perhaps Furbank joining, so would he even be a bolt on second
       10, ever at Quins.
At Ulster he will be the second 10, but it is a big risk for
him, players can fall into the void there, and can't see him
being capped by Ireland, as there are four players ahead of him.
He needs to stay fit and take his chances. he is rolling the
       dice.

Well, still disappointing. I wish him well and hope he has a
successful time in Norn Iron. He has a real chance of a starting
       shirt, I think.
Another academy player leaves... but more understandable really,
there is a path to international caps that he simply doesn't
       have here.

       Very quickly...
I don't think either player produced their best for Sale,
nowhere near. Cipriani doesn't rank up there for me despite how
awesome he was for Wasps because he had quite a few mediocre
years for other clubs. Ford was better for both Tigers and Bath
than for Sale IMO. Charlie took a decent team to the title and
then ruled the roost at Saracens!

real shame, thought he was superb for us when fit and allowed to
play. Hope we have some more gems coming through to replace him
and the Furbank thing is true.
