Contrary to popular belief - you can't force someone to stay at
a job.
If he has decided that his future is in another country and
wants to go, etc. then he will probably go no matter what you do
to try and stop him.

I dunno if he's all that. He's good raw material but we're not
talking young Marcus levels of impact (or Jibulu, or frankly
even Friday) so I'd personally not want to see the club break
the bank to keep him. Obviously would rather he stayed and
developed into a genuine contender for a starting shirt rather
than "probably better than the guy who's a bit useless and is
leaving anyway"

If he is being targeted by Ireland, and the provinces are part
of IRFU, then they think he is more than that.
He is also only 23.
And may be already be at least on a par with Jarrod, who is 29
with 17 Wales caps.
Marcus should still be our #1, but someone needed to say to
Jamie, you are the future for the club.
Even if the IRFU have only offered him #4 status, that is a lot
higher in the pecking order than he would be in England, and the
current #2 and #3 are five years older than him.
In a team ranked higher than England.
Now, Jamie is a bright boy, even if he went to the wrong
college. If his path to international honours isvia moving to
Dublin, he is going to take it.
I was at Emmanuel, across the road from Darwin, Jamie's college,
so we were bitter rivals in inter-collegiate sport etc.

Okay but being on a par with Jarrod in reality means being on
par with someone who's been mediocre at best. Ireland were
desperate for Billy Burns - sometimes we forget they really
don't have a huge player base, and they really don't have a lot
of fly halves.
I don't think he's rubbish or anything, but I do think it's a
classic example of a superb early performance or two papering
over the cracks in the next ten...

I also think that we have a really good pipeline of future FH
options.
Slevin + Bellamy + Jones
However, it would be nice to keep Benson as he is good off the
tee and he covers multiple positions.
E.g. - I think that we could have adequately slotted in at 13 in
the last game when Luke went off without having to reshuffle the
backs.
Also, he doesn't seem to have many howlers. (Even Marcus has the
odd brain-fade.)
Basically, he is a good bench option.

Benson reminds me of a Charlie Hodgson type. Never going to
steal the limelight with a more household flash name ahead of
him (As charlie did with Wilkinson) but a solid dependable type.

I've been relatively impressed with Benson. He has composure,
game awareness and a decent boot, both distance out of hand and
from the tee. Fly half looks to be his best position by some
distance, and it's whether he's decent enough at centre or full
back to nail down a regular bench spot for us.
Not sure what the lure of Ireland would be other than the cash.
He won't be ahead of Crowley for either Munster or Ireland, and
there's no certainty he'd unseat Jack Murphy at Ulster who's a
couple of years younger than him. And if he's gunning for
international honours, there's always the penalty of not playing
for Leinster. Any 50/50 selection calls tend to go their way.
He's as good/much of a chance being in the England reckoning.
