As has been stated on another thread it seems the alleged
treatment of Tabei has come back to bite us. I don't know any
details of specific complaints, and doubt we as fans will hear,
but the rumours are so widespread that smoke and fire come to
mind. Sadly this could affect us for some time, probably until
there is a regime change in senior management or a marked change
in playing fortunes.

Around the same time that it was rumoured Mike was treated
horrendously by the club.

Not sure about that one. Much like with Marland Yarde, sometimes
players don't help themselves at all.

Again, I firmly believe that you have just got to seperate the
Business side from the playing side. The DoR has simply got to
have the first, second and final say on anything and everything
to do with the team, including recruitment, tactics, contracts
etc etc. How many Chiefs do you need ffs?..(see wot I dun
there..)

An ageing Deans travelling, spending extended periods living in
a Surrey hotel or working in the middle of the night from the
other side of the world? Yeah, he'll be full of beans - can't
see that working out for the full season.
Gilmore... what can you say? If you're going to lowball us
Laurie, I genuinely would have taken a punt on Easter over
Gilmore. At least it would have been a fresh voice, shaken
things up and you'd have handed the reins to a guy who genuinely
lived and breathed the club. When a guy like that speaks, the
squad at least listens and respects - I don't get the same
feeling from Gilmore. This just reeks of more of that comfort
that our players clearly love, but which evidently does not
translate to elite level performance.
Someone I know very closely actually got to know one of the
senior players for periods during this season - through a house
sharing situation with the player's girlfriend - and he learned
that there is quite a lot of division in the squad during
training weeks. Apparently the Argies all stick together and
don't really mix with the rest of the squad - this player called
them "all a bit weird". He said the younger players just felt
like a different generation, many of them seeming to be more
interested in chasing clout and brand deals/events and social
media status than he'd previously seen before (still admitting
that this had always been a thing for academy/younger players
coming through). The only squad member he marked as a true
leader and who threw his all into training relentlessly, day in,
day out - you guessed it - was Marcus. I think there are real
cultural issues at the club - and for me that all comes back to
the DOR or HC, whoever is heading up the rugby programme.
Having said all that, the only good news I can see is the
announcement of Hunter as Forwards Coach. His 4 weeks as HC at
Chiefs is a red herring given the turmoil they had down there at
that point in time. Prior to that, he did do a real job turning
the Exeter pack into a feared, gnarly unit - and we need that.
In fact we've needed a Forwards Coach to get the pack frothing
at the mouth for a long old time.
The non-mention of Attack/Backs screams NEv leaving the
building... Wonder what the plan is there. If there is one.
Overall: I just feel a bit sad really.

I mentioned on a previous thread that I'd pack the players off
to some kind of retreat and let them work out their issues
amongst themselves. These things do work.
As for the announcement, I'm seemingly alone in being
optimistic. We'll see how it pans out. I'm positive this will
have the desired effect.

Out of genuine interest, why do you think that Quinky?
The response across all forms of social media I’ve seen has been
almost entirely negative, with any optimism being heavily
qualified. Not often you get such unform views.

Wholesale change rarely brings sustained success. This is a bit
more than minor tweaks. Above all, it gives clarity and
definition, both to the players and the management. It's not
easy when people's roles are very fuzzy around the edges.
The players are professionals, and should buy into what the
coaching team have in mind. My gut feeling is the continuous
changes in personnel is reflected in the playing style and
tactics. Now we will hopefully have consistency, and mostly
with coaches who know the players.
Deans is a strong pick. I think he'll bring more structure to
the setup.
The bottom line is the players. A good off season with no
sudden management changes, will allow them to focus with a
feeling stability.
My only concern is with the S&C team. We have far too many
injuries, and players are often out for months at a time, not
just weeks. Our squad is running very thin, and that's bad on
many levels.

It’s OK MQ. I’m sure plenty will require training to reach your
standard so you can pivot that way!
