       "Unlimited education fund for players."
This is a point that I think clubs could (or maybe do) really
exploit. We all know that a tiny number of players will earn
enough from rugby (and associated links) to survive after
retirement from playing. There are only so many coaching gigs
and TV slots; plus, most will only ever write one book and very
few will sell all that well (plus books don't actually earn that
much unless you're JK Rowling or Jamie Oliver).
A player who enters the corporate world at 33 is already way
behind on experience, so a bundle of qualifications would be a
nice boost. Possibly the best example I can think of is Jamie
Roberts. Going from rugby to being a qualified doctor won't mean
a massive step down in income, and I doubt he's got a horrific
student loan hanging over his head. That's not to say Quins
should aim to bolster the NHS, but equally to step from the
       pitch to being a qualifies accountant/surveyor/architect isn't
       beyond the aims of many.

Agree with this. (Although someone has to bolster the NHS!) And
it needs to be a priority. A player could get a career-ending
injury at any time, so the club needs to make sure they'll be
able to move onto something else.

If there were a full European league, it would be able to
provide all the rugby the TV companies want.
Therefore, the second level would struggle to get on TV - which
would make it more of a strong Championship rather than a weak
       Premiership.

I'd have thought any plans abolish the salary cap, would be the
first stage in promoting a European/world super league.

I wonder if a player could be offered a contract wherein they
were given a year or two of full time studies at the end of
their playing days if desired, with Quins simply picking up the
tab? It could be written in as a type of insurance in the case
of a career threatening injury, and if there's no cap on
training and education we'd not be breaking any rules. Maybe we
could keep them as a squad member and that would give us some
       backup too.

The French will never give up the Top 14\ Brennus for a Europa
League! and why should they! I often also watch ProD2, which is
as good as the Prem, good viewing on a Thursday night, and 2
       matches on a Friday!

A great idea would be for the entrepreneurial owners to help the
players build businesses and investments using their established
professional networks so that not only could the players be paid
to play professional rugby but they would also develop
commercial skills and their passive JV-investments would help
support them long after their short playing career has ended.
This is such an innovative and brilliant idea that I'm amazed
none of the club owners, or indeed the fans, have not suggested
it sooner. Afterall, it would only be a modern professional
iteration of the model that certain clubs employed to attract
and retain players in the strictly amateur era and nobody seemed
to mind the rules being broken back then.

AKA Cheating the Salary Cap. I wonder where you got that idea
       from?

What business skills do you learn from having a business set up
for you, that business being funded by a generous investor with
no expectation of repayment, the business buying a house for you
to live in and then not trading?

This seems an entirely incoherent article. Arguing for spending
more without any suggestions of where the income to pay for it
should come from is irresponsible. We already rely on the
charity of a few very wealthy men. The sport does not become
more sustainable by increasing that. Maybe we need to face up to
the fact that the sport in England (and Wales) does not justify
the money it spends, and until it does or we spend less, we're
always going to be in crisis.
       [/quote]
       Quite.
People still have car crashes despite brakes, so let's remove
       them from cars.
