Just for info - in this section, there has been at least 6
collisions within the last 5 years. (My understanding is that
the number sometimes go up as the police update the data).
- 1 x fatal
- 5 x serious
I also think that there has been a few bicycle deaths in this
area. I think there are 2 of those white painted bikes.
So - like it or not, it probably needed to be done.

The bit outside St Stephens School has been 30 for some time.
To be honest, you would need to be extremely lucky to drive at
more that 10 miles an hour on that bit.

Erm is it not still 50 from the M3 to Apex Corner
(McDonald's/Curry's)?

Yes - it is.
It used to be a 70 zone a few years back.

on Monday and the the “new 30 limit” sign was covered. If they
change the speed limit from 40 to 30 there has to be a “gateway”
which is the new speed limit displayed on both sides of the
road. You can’t apply the streetlights rule if there has been a
higher limit on that road. This is information from a speed
awareness course. The fact that the new 30 limit sign was
visible over a week ago may have caused confusion as it didnt
start until 20/03. Assuming they did put the proper signage up
by then.

Drove along it earlier (and back) for the schools finals day at
HQ, and the reduction in speed limit could definitely be made
clearer. I think I spotted one small 30 mph in the Eastbound
direction and nothing going West. They also haven’t updated
satnav data as my car still thinks it’s 40 (appreciate that this
isn’t a legal requirement, but it suggests that the change is
partly being used to drive revenue rather than promote safety).
No doubt people will get used to it pretty quickly, but there
were definitely cars going up to 40 at the point where the limit
used to change.

in my area cannot find the budget to put some yellow lines down
at a T-junction where the side road joins a rat run road that
nobody obeys the 30 limit on and everyone parks right up to the
corner on the rat run so if you are emerging from the side road
you cannot see anything approaching. Not so much a revenue trap
as a Death Trap. Grrrrrr

There are two lovely shiny new 30 signs at the Curries
roundabout going east creating the “gateway” so all good with
the signage now. It’s sensible for the limit to be 30 from
Curries roundabout to the St Margaret’s one as there are many
houses and roads plus the school onto the 316. From St Margerets
to Rich mind circus has very little on to it and cycle paths. It
appears that the reason for the reduction is to reach the target
set by TFL to reduce the speed on 160 odd Ks of road which was
in the link posted earlier in the thread. Anyway hopefully
everyone will be aware of it now.

I hate TFL and their anti motorist attitude. All the tradesman
that I know who have to work in London don't want to drive. But
public transport doesn't work with tools, materials etc
I'm surprised there aren't more cyclists killed on London's
roads with the general standard of cycling. I had to go from
Hampshire to Wapping and then Bow today for site meetings today.
Took the motorcycle as the car is a pain and public transport is
sooo slow if you have multiple destinations. The number of
eejots on lime bikes was unreal. Mind you some of the mamils
weren't much better.... I'm not averse to lowered speed limits,
20mph is fine on side roads where there might be kids playing,
outside of schools etc. But the A316 to 30? it's a dual
carriageway! Mental! I get the feeling that TFL won't be
satisfied until all the private motor vehicles are off of
London's streets.... All part of the 20 minute cities policy
that your mayor has signed you up to. Good luck getting any work
done on your houses, or building new ones, once that comes in!

I can understand that you are angry about some of the speed
reductions.
But, making this bit of the a316 to be the same speed as the 2
bits either side doesn't feel like it warrants getting cross
about.
It is probably pretty rare that the speed is greater than 30 and
even if you do manage to go faster, you just have to stop and
wait for ages at the roundabouts at either end.
