OT - Speed limit St.Margerets to Richmond Roundabout A316

In terms of the A316, we are about to reduce the speed limit on
a section of this road between St Margarets roundabout and Old
Deer Park from 40 to 30mph as part of Phase 3 of the Lowering
Speed Limits programme on 20th March 2026.

Watch out all you Quins fans travelling to the game on Saturday
down this route. Quite controversial locally with the signage or
lack of it. More like a motorist trap to raise revenue.

Its a TFL red route, so changing the signs is down to TFL.

There are signs that say that the speed limit has changed. There
are also small 30 signs

They must have just put the 30 signs up as they weren’t there on
Monday and the the “new 30 limit” sign was covered. If they
change the speed limit from 40 to 30 there has to be a “gateway”
which is the new speed limit displayed on both sides of the
road. You can’t apply the streetlights rule if there has been a
higher limit on that road. This is information from a speed
awareness course. The fact that the new 30 limit sign was
visible over a week ago may have caused confusion as it didnt
start until 20/03. Assuming they did put the proper signage up
by then.

The speed limit doesn't change from 40 to 30.
It just stays at 30.
The signs were up a few weeks back. Maybe they have since been
taken down

Funny how they can find the budget to set a revenue trap but in
my area cannot find the budget to put some yellow lines down at
a T-junction where the side road joins a rat run road that
nobody obeys the 30 limit on and everyone parks right up to the
corner on the rat run so if you are emerging from the side road
you cannot see anything approaching. Not so much a revenue trap
as a Death Trap. Grrrrrr

The speed limit from the end of the M3 and along past The Stoop
is 40. It was all the way up to Richmond circus.
