Did I miss the announcement about Nev or is that someone's
wishful thinking?
If the HC is yet to be announced, this does give the HC the
chance to say "I can't work with Robbie Deans" and the club to
split with little pain or monetary loss. It also guards against
the possibility that this consulting from the other side of the
world turns out to be impossible in practice.
I guess if Deans is looking at how we play, then he can study
endless tapes of actual matches and recordings of training. I
mean they all have those GPS trackers on all the time and such.
The only thing you're going to miss is actually watching body
language and player chat, they probably record that too!
I think this is a good "toe in the water" approach if both sides
are a little hesitant to commit immediately.

Telegraph article just says "All Black fly-half Nick Evans is
unlikely to remain part of the team".
then some other articles mention he may be returning back to NZ

I am preparing myself to be thoroughly underwhelmed now.
Of all the names mentioned as possibles, Nick Easter is the best
of a bad bunch for me - and that's just based on a hope that
he'd be the inspirational figure we need and would be able to
convert his limited lower league success to the top of the
English game.
Dickens or Gilmore would just be tragic - I won't be renewing my
ST if that's the road we go down.

I would be very disappointed if Easter was appointed to a senior
role. An inexperienced coach from a mid-table Championship team.
Yes, he was a great player for us and a good leader, but it's
really not the experience our flailing club needs.

Easter was a great player but 8th place in the Champ, 38 points
behind the leaders, does not shout give me a job, as head coach
of a Prem club.
They are only realistically only ahead of Doncaster based on
predictions and pretty much where they are expected to be in the
league, if you want to employ a champ coach Dave Ward would be a
better bet, due to PWR experience with Bristol, and less likely
to draw attention for the wrong social media reasons.
But we really need a Head coach with elite level experience and
a veteran DoR, rather than just rolling the dice again.

A lot of catastrophising in here when we aren't in receipt of
all the facts yet.
If it's Deans as the head man, at arms length this year (which
makes some sense but clearly not ideal) and then fully committed
for 2026/7, then that is a good result all things considered.
The model is clearly Saints' where they brought Boyd over, and
got him to impart wisdom on the younger group of coaches who
then took things forward. If that is the vision, no issue with
it. If it isn't and he hasn't had the opportunity to pick his
assistants, then it's more problematic.
Sounds like it's probably Deans overseeing and guiding:
Dickens (attack)
Gilmore (defence)
Bomb (Scrum / forwards)
Mullen (Skills)
With one of them taking over full time after Deans walks in a
couple of years.
It's probably been challenging to find a big name who is willing
to work within Laurie's vision of sticking to who we are as a
club, rather than letting someone new rewrite some of that
approach and its connected values, would be my guess. Whether
that's right or wrong is the bigger question.

Hey, cheer up guys n' gals, I am sure the board/management knows
what they are doing......... they have a stellar record of
getting the right 'person' in over the past years!
