It gets a bad rep but it all has the same end product! If it
helps I’m partial to a bit of Cointreau

I saw something on Planet Rugby IIRC that there is a level of
distrust in NZ because of the way Tabei was treated. Might be
nothing but still a thought.

If the choice was between coaching Northampton or Harlequins,
which do you think a coach would take? I got told a few years
back at one of those "State of the Union" type meeting that we
aspired to be Northampton. Same size ground, sell outs every
home game, good match day atmosphere, running rugby (ish). I
assume they spend up to the salary cap. So why are they top of
the table and we're fighting Newcastle to be last?

Well, who really knows, but Saints aren't usually one of the
clubs mentioned as spending up to the cap, but then nor are we
these days.
Of course the reason they're not mentioned may well be different
to the reason we're not.

Of all of the post-CO'S head honchos, he was the one who I think
fit us the best and then we got rid of him 'as we weren't
reaching standards.'
Only to promote Danny Wilson, who'd got a consultancy gig
through his relationship with Billy Millard and never come close
to the league standing we had under Tabai.
The mind boggles.

Telegraph reporting that Robbie Deans, former Crusaders and
Wallabies head coach, is joining for next season on a
consultancy basis.

He’s got a good CV for sure, but why not commit? Also it hardly
gives stability to a squad to get behind the gaffer so to speak.
We need someone to want to be here for a project and have a
vision, not someone to just go “ah yeah that’s knackered mate”
before deciding there’s another gig to go to

I can understand why any coach worth his* salt would perhaps be
hesitant. The rapid turnover of coaches in a relatively short
period could suggest all is not well somewhere and you’d only
find out what exactly once you’re in the building.
*I was going to say “his or her” but I think a high profile
female coach may see a Prem DoR/HC role as an opportunity that
can’t be turned down.

Well more why they think that is the fix we need and the most
important position to spend big on. I have no complaint of what
he’ll bring (everything you state) I just wonder if we need
other positions and more big ball carriers more.
