Ticks all the boxes, hasn't got a great deal of experience in
the top job, with a fairly average CV beforehand.

Someone in the know said to me to watch Jason Gilmour being
given the job for two years - if he makes a success he keeps it,
if not a lot of coaches become available after the World Cup.
Sounds very plausible.

I am fully prepared to be wholly underwhelmed.
Same as with these signing we’re waiting with bated breath for,
if 1 is Furbank I won’t be disappointed at the quality of player
but I’d struggle with the why.

Why Furbank, you mean? I think that's one that makes a lot of
sense - leadership, defensive power, a playmaker at the back
that we otherwise don't have... we're quite one dimensional with
our 15s at the moment.

I do wonder why they shoot themselves in the foot by making bold
statements like "world-wide Search" when they end up promoting
from within. They tried it once when we ended up with JK and it
back fired badly, so stop doing it.
As SussexQuin states, it would make sense to do that if the
right candidate isn't available rather than jumping at people
who just want the money or the social media likes
