I don't think they do

I don't see how - players are only really turning their bodies
when they're on the ground. If they're jumping to compete for
the ball they don't turn their body because if they do they
can't see the ball...

Assume a player is right handed.
As he jumps, he tries to twist anti clockwise so that he can
reach further with his right hand. If he gets it right, then he
is facing at 90 degrees at the time he knocks the ball on.
One thing he can't do is stop turning while in the air.

I recall Nigel Owen on a rugby podcast addressing the legality
and tactics of jumping to tap or catch the ball during kick
chases.
I recall his comment had some merit and to paraphrase what he
said: "He would have a "disruption law" that would prevent
players from simply slapping or tapping the ball in the air. The
player had to make to make a genuine attempt to catch the ball
rather than just knocking it back to teammates"

You can actually stop twisting your body - they're not spinning
in the air. 90 degrees is fine, it doesn't stop them seeing the
ball or the opposition. We don't see players jumping to compete
with their backs to their opponents
