"Borthwick should trust Marcus Smith to unshackle England’s

No idea if this is true from the Grauniad, but if it is, it
       would certainly explain things:
"While on the topic of trust, it is also time for Borthwick to
empower Lee Blackett, his highly regarded attack coach. Sources
have suggested there are training sessions in which Blackett is
afforded as few as five minutes to work on the attack"

I like the cut of this man's jib, but changing to Marcus to
rescue the situation has the words "disaster" and "scape goat"
leaping to the front of my brain. We know with England what
follows if Plan A doesn't work, more Plan A! I'm pretty sure
Marcus could make a good fist of playing 10 for England, but
could the rest of the team cope? Can they run the support lines
that Marcus will be expecting? Will they be reading his mind and
running for the kick before he's even shaped to kick it? If we
had a month of training, we could do this. But one short week?
Please, please, please let me be wrong! As a fan of England and
Marcus I would love to see him rescue this 6N, but it's asking
       an awful lot!

I agree with you, honestly. He would be a sacrificial pawn if
thrown in this week. You don't develop a running, attacking game
       in a couple of days.

He deserves a shot by virtue of being the only 10 available to
us who hasn't had a shocker for England recently but yeah,
England's attacking problems aren't because we're playing the
       wrong fly half.

Borthwick and inspiration are not happy bedfellows, everyone who
has any interest in rugby knew we were going to get a incredibly
conservative and and unimaginative coach with him, and combining
him with Wigglesworth is just creating a binary chemical weapon
       of tedium.
Realistically we will only keep him on to the World Cup if the
publicity is too damaging or the financial compensation to much
       for the RFU.
If the only allowing Blackett five minutes is even partially
true, it defies believe, but what did anyone really expect from
Borthwick, once teams worked out the attack and the narrow
defence, it was going to become more difficult, but the decline
has been spectacular and will probably end the international
       careers of a few players.
As far as the 10’s, Ford has lost form dramatically and looks at
the end of his career, and Fin Smith, looks very average, which
is in my opinion is what he is, Marcus has probably been lucky
       not to be more involved.
The big question is whether the RFU, want to rerun the end of
the Eddie Jones era, in full view again or will they cut their
losses, much depends on if a viable replacement is available and
       willing to take the job.

Please keep him in position long enough for Quins to get our
replacement signed up before cutting him. The viable pool is
very shallow at the moment !
