Marcus to come on and win it with a drop goal. Such mixed
feelings about this team, wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry,
probably both.

Yellow cards permitting, he needs to make changes when it starts
going wonky to give them a chance. Marcus was excellent out
there two years ago, let's hope for a repeat of that but he

Sticking to a really bad team is certainly brave.
Should been Marcus at 10. Itoje out of 23.

Not much else he could do at this stage. Go back to the
Scotland/Ireland team? They were terrible. Bring in Marcus to
start and try a completely different game plan? Not time to
train for it. Borthwick messed this up from the start, so now
all they can do is let the players try to win. Which they
probably won't...

All I really care about is that they actually pass to Murley in
space. With Spencer being all left sided, the kicking plan and
Atkinson kicking away an overlap twice on Saturday I am sure
it's unlikely. I guess France might kick to him once or twice.

Marcus at 10 would require a completely different gameplan, and
there's no time for that now. Either that or he would be forced
to play like Ford, which doesn't work for him.
I don't know why people have decided Itoje needs to be dropped.
He played better than most players at the weekend, constantly
messing up opponents mauls and rucks. He made three turnovers.
Not sure anyone else did that. The yellow card was stupid, but
it was very close to successful. If he'd managed to hook the
ball backwards, as he was clearly intending, rather than knock
it on, it would have been legal and a very good move. Probably
shouldn't have taken the risk, but at least he was trying,
unlike some of the players.

Last season, that would be true.
This season, under the current law trial, those bound into a
maul cannot play the person attempting to play the ball away.
I know the laws as played have little to do with the laws as
written, but this is one that the refs have been told to be
strict on.

I'm not sure I buy into the "not enough time to train for a
Marcus game plan" theory. Surely decent sides adjust to what's
going on. Kick heavy not working, switch to ball in hand should
be a decision made on the pitch. Atkinson, Freeman, Murley,
Roebuck, Spencer can all play that way and do week in week out
so wouldn't be a big change, would it?

He didn't play the player. He played the ball. Is that also
covered?

Yes, he'd had a good game up until that point. But it was a
ludicrously stupid move - the benefits weren't massive, the
risks were very high, and the situation (already being a man
down) meant England had to be on their best behaviour. It was a
very bad decision from Itoje to go for it. A very low percentage
play.
