​Harlequins Appoint Bryan Redpath as Director of Rugby
​LONDON — Harlequins is delighted to announce the
appointment of Scottish rugby legend Bryan Redpath as the Club’s
new Director of Rugby. Redpath joins the Premiership side
following a highly successful tenure as Director of Rugby at
London Scottish, bringing a wealth of elite coaching experience
and a deep-rooted understanding of the Harlequins culture.
​Continuity at the Core
​A primary driver behind Redpath’s appointment is the
seamless continuity he offers the Club. Over the past several
seasons, Redpath has been a central figure in the strategic
partnership between Harlequins and London Scottish. In this
role, he has worked directly with a significant number of Quins’
emerging talents and senior squad members during their
development rotations.
​"The opportunity to step into this role at Harlequins
feels like a natural progression," said Redpath. "Having worked
closely with so many of these players through our partnership at
London Scottish, I already have a clear understanding of their
strengths, their characters, and the DNA of the Quins style of
play. This continuity is vital for us to maintain our momentum
and drive for silverware."
​A Proven Track Record
​Redpath, who earned 60 caps for Scotland and captained
the national side 26 times, has built a formidable coaching
resume since retiring from his playing career:
​Head Coach: Gloucester Rugby (2009–2012)
​Director of Rugby: Sale Sharks (2012–2015)
​Head Coach: Yorkshire Carnegie (2015–2017)
​Director of Rugby: London Scottish (2022–2026)
​Strengthening the Performance Pathway
​During his time at London Scottish, Redpath was
instrumental in mentoring young Harlequins stars such as Fin
Baxter, Sam Riley, and Oscar Beard. His appointment ensures that
the bridge between the Academy and the First Team remains
stronger than ever.
​Harlequins CEO Laurie Dalrymple commented:
"Bryan’s intimate knowledge of our playing group and his proven
leadership at the highest level of the game made him the
standout candidate. He understands the 'Quins Way' and has
already played a significant part in developing the talent we
see on the pitch today. We are excited to see him lead our
coaching group into this next chapter."
​Redpath will begin his role immediately, overseeing a
coaching team that includes Nick Evans (Attack) and Adam Jones
(Scrum).

TBF, Redpath seems to have the perfect track record to achieve
the club's present ambitions: "Under Redpath, Scottish finished
11th in his first season and ninth in the next two... this
season, they are second-from-bottom and face the likelihood of a
relegation play-off..."
Perhaps this is what they mean by looking for someone who will
deliver continuity in "the Harlequins' way".

I think they're trying to find the same amount of gold they had
with COS back in the day. I accept you can talk a good game but
not see the benefit on the pitch and other clubs may think that
they are better placed to help you with that but it's all just a
gamble, even if you bring a top level international coach in.
