I don’t believe Borthwick has a clue about his selections. He
probably just looks at his laptop to check the week’s training
data and selects on that basis. Time to get rid after the Six
Nations so a new Head Coach (Blackett?) has time to get a
regular side together before the World Cup. When the books are
written by players about Borthwick’s coaching tenure, I have the
feeling they will make Eddie’s last couple of years look like
fun.

Spencer; Genge, George, Heyes, Itoje (capt), Coles, Pepper,
Curry, Earl.
Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, Rodd, Davison, Chessum, Underhill,
Pollock, Van Poortvliet, M Smith.

Hmmm, Genge and George are the Vice Captains. They're both bound
to be replaced during the game. Itoje's been subbed atound the
55min mark in the two games he's started this year, and came off
the bench in the opener. If he gets replaced as seems likely
based on recent history, that'll leave us needing a new captain
for the last 20 mins when we could be trying to either chase a
lead or close out the game. That's not giving me good vibes...

Surprised and disappointed CCS didn't get the nod. Given we've
lacked a bit of thrust and I don't think the back rowers have
been setting the world alight I thought there'd be space for
him.

The eternal optimist in me thinks we can't red too much into how
Itoje has been managed so far this year. He's clearly been going
through a lot but 2 weeks further on, there is a possibility
that we are reverting to him being an 80-minute man again.
If he, George and Genge do all come off, there is still
potentially Spencer who is at least Bath's captain and Chessum
who is Leicester's. Curry has also captained England before
although I suspect he will also be making way around the 50-60m
mark.
