What would be good is if someone "did a Wrexham" and invested
into Darlington Mowden. They're currently playing in the 4th
tier, but already meet one of the criteria by having a 25,000
capacity stadium. It would be a proper local rival for Newcastle
too.

They sold their old ground for £6m and bought Darlington
Football ground for £2m, the ground that the football club moved
into in 2003 and only got an average of 2000, caused the
football club to go into admin.
That happened in 2012, by 2020 the rugby club moved from being
owned by the members to sole ownership of an individual due to
the costs of running the ground.

Saints came 8th last season. And the team they put out in the
quarter final was absolutely not Premiership quality.

The media rights revenue increasing is the way to make a profit,
and a single shirt supplier with pooled income for the clubs
from online sales, bigger grounds are nice too have, if you can
use them for other things apart from rugby, but the media rights
are the way to make a profit.
NFL teams received $13 billion, or just over $400 million
apiece, from leaguewide media, sponsorship, licensing and
merchandise deals last year. In addition, teams got $25 million
each as part of the NFL’s shared gate receipt system, which
calls for 34% of each team’s ticket revenue to go toward a
general pool to be shared equally. The result: 67% of the $20.5
billion in 2023 NFL revenue was distributed in equal parcels to
the 32 teams.
Tickets and luxury suites are the next largest revenue bucket
for NFL teams at $3 billion, or 15% of the total pie.
Sportico estimated team sponsorship revenue at just over $2
billion last year, or 10% of the total.
Revenue from concessions, parking, team stores and non-NFL
events was $1.5 billion.
Almost all the TV inventory is controlled at the league level,
and the only local media rights are from radio and preseason
games. Local media represented less than 2% of overall revenue

Whilst not in the NE, isn't this essentially what the Birmingham
City interest would amount to? Big investors pumping money into
a club in an area devoid of a Prem team.

Birmingham I guess would look to relocate Mosely (assuming the
investors are targeting them as the vehicle for the new
Franchise) to St Andrews, in the way that Bears use Ashton Gate
alongside Bristol City. If they're owned by the same overall
owners, it makes sense...

If I read the article properly, they are looking to move away
from Small Heath and build a Sports Quarter for all the clubs
they have a stake in. There was talk of a new 10k-seater for the
Blues' women's team and using that for the rugby team.
However, they also mentioned a 15k-seater (I think) indoor
arena. Brum's La Défense?

The Birmingham project might be delayed, as the Tom Wagner,
their main investor, had a stroke about three weeks ago.
But they do seem to want to do what john Hall was doing in
Newcastle, and to some extent, what Bristol are doing and Wasps
were with their Netball side - that is to have lots of teams
sharing facilities to make the numbers look better.

Not sure what's going on with Bristol but I believe Lansdown
wants rid of it.
