I got as far as seeing that the photo was watermarked (and
presumably therefore used without payment) and skipped the rest

It's a legitimate use of images.

It is all a bit Captain Obvious but I don't disagree with
anything that's written. Smith has fallen down the pecking order
and we (Quins) are cack... and as a result of us struggling as a
team, the pressure on Marcus has shown in his performances. Bit
of a vicious cycle that has spiralled all too quickly.
Until we are back firing as a team, I can't see Marcus getting a
look in for the starting 10 shirt - especially when Saints are
having a field day with Fin at the helm.

In their recent England appearances Fin was anonymous (though
admittedly trying to spark things at second receiver with Ford
very much off the boil). Marcus was at least trying to do
something and created a lot of opportunities that went begging
because of the lack of other players working in support and
using their brains. Would McDowell’s tackle be endlessly
replayed if there had been any other England players in support
(or even someone offering an option for the crossfield kick)?
But maybe you’re right. What’s the good of England having a
player who presents problems that defences can’t solve if the
(lack of) support is going to solve those problems for him.

       If Marcus Smith - a 27 year old 80kg flyhalf/fullback - who came
on just before halftime can't outrun Stuart McCloskey - a 33
year old 115kg crashball centre who had been playing from the
start and gave Smith a 10m headstart, then the problems Smith
creates won't be ones that his opponents will have to worry
       about.

Yeah. Fully agree. After all, it isn't a team sport is it.
