Working for someone worth about 300 million probably has some
       perks too

Wasps under Gatland were a great attacking side. Howley, King,
       Waters, Abbott, Voyce, Lewsey…
At Wales he built a big brutish backline because that’s what
they had available in terms of talent. And he did very well with
it. I would imagine he is smart enough to realise he wouldn’t be
able to replicate that with Quins squad.

He said he didn’t understand the full extent of their troubles.
That’s a big difference. It would be impossible to know the full
extent unless given privileged access, which obviously wouldn’t
have been provided to him or anyone else not employed by WRU.

The rest of that was "and are pining for Cockerill or Diamond",
i.e. people who think the attitude readjustment is paramount and
everything else is basically irrelevant as long as we can get
someone in who is going to make Quins players prepared to die in
the trenches on a Friday night in Newcastle
which is how we ended up with Gustard

Most of us could see it was a disaster from the outside.

Fair enough. I do think an attitude adjustment is paramount. But
I also think other elements are relevant. Maybe Gats as DOR to
drive the culture and then some more ‘Quins minded’ coaches
under him would get the best of both worlds. Maybe it would be a
       disaster.

Well, that's the nub of the matter, isn't it? We've promoted
from within, we've promoted from without. Arguably Dean Richards
was the only DOR that worked out, but maybe we didn't have him
long for him to fail like the others. Trouble is you have to
make a selection of who is available or go the expensive route
of trying to buy someone out. If it's Gatland, Mapletoft or
Minty for DOR, then only one has the experience we need. If it's
one of the recognised names, I'd put them above Gatland.

One thing I'm certain of is I think Gatland in either DOR/HC
role would command more respect from the squad than say
Gilmore/Wilson/Matson...recent form aside he is at least a
household name. I know you could say players are professional
and would always respect the powers that be...but In practice I
think we can be honest and agree the players probably have got
complacent or not "feared" underperforming as much as they
       should.

I'd be happy to give Gats a go - when have we had such a high
profile DOR - sure that doesn't guarantee anything but as has
been said before, Quins issue appears to be mental attitude and
someone of his stature surely commands respect and hey, what do
       we have to lose !!!!!!!
