He had a lot of success with Pests back in the day but hasn't
really done anything of note for several years now. Is he a bit
       too much of a dinosaur?
I'd agree he might be a good choice to come in to mentor a
younger coach to take over. Still not ideal IMHO though.

Nay, nay and thrice nay thank you! He should be banned from the
Stoop after how he treated Robshaw, Care & Brown in 2013/2017
and is a dinosaur in rugby terms.
I feel a burning of season tickets on the pitch is in the offing

Mapletoft or Gatland? Get Kingston on the phone.

I don’t understand the overwhelmingly negative reaction. He’s
got a great CV. Sure, his last couple of positions weren’t a
success. He was on to a loser with Wales. Can’t say I followed
his time in NZ closely enough to comment on that. But before
that his record is brilliant. He’s miles ahead of anyone else
we’ve hired in the last 15+ years, in my opinion. Sure, I would
prefer Robertson, Rennie, Cotter… but Gatland could do well
       here.
I get there’s questions over his style. Warrenball or whatever.
To be honest, Quins could do with a bit of that hard edged
physicality added to their game. But he also was working with
what he had in previous roles. He doesn’t have the players to do
that at Quins so I think he would adapt.
Primarily, we need a DOR who can instill a bit of fight in the
team and build a squad that can compete. I think Gatland could
       do both well.

I think the problem with Gatland and the reason so many of us
are not keen on him is that when he came back to Wales he was
utterly clueless. He clearly hadn't kept up with what was
happening in Wales and expected to just swan back in and start
winning again. When he didn't, he got a bad attitude and
       attacked the players.
If he's learnt his lesson and is willing to put the work in,
that's one thing. But recently he's looked like he's coasting
and building up a pension pot.

It's my plan. But no one is thinking about employing me as head
       coach.

Maybe. Or maybe he knew it was a tough gig and he was brutally
honest about how far behind they are and he didn’t make many
friends in the process. Wales haven’t exactly turned it round
       since he left.

I veer between ambivalent to apathetic
There's no denial that he's got a great body of work in the
       past.
However, it's been 20 years since he left Wasps.
His brilliant Wales team didn't leave much of a legacy, as all
the resources were poured into his "here and now" methods and
out of the pathways, which is now seriously being felt.
He won't be bringing Shaun Edwards with him and his staffing
choices since then aren't exactly inspirational (Rob Howley
       :'()
Outside of WC23, his career post-2019 has been very poor,
       notably with The Chiefs.
I'll want to give anyone who gets the job a fair crack of the
whip, but this feels very lazy on all fronts.

Yeah, I can't help feeling that his time has beeen and gone plus
his playing style is not the most suitable for Quins.
