I imagine that most things would be better than playing for
Quins right now. Terrible team, terrible lack of direction. And
with no major prospects for England, why not take a job
somewhere in the south for France for a couple of years?
Not saying he will or that he wants to, but to me it would be a
pretty decent offer. He's young, he doesn't have family tying
him down. When's a better time to go?

Huh?
Smith played for England in the most recent game
CCS is part of the current squad. There’s every chance we’ll see
him this campaign
Northmore, Kenningham, Murley, Dombrandt all played in the A
game and are arguably an injury away from joining the main squad
(like Kloska has just done)
It’s not like Quins are Newcastle with 0 representatives

It is fair to say that the word major is the important part
there. Marcus isn't treated as a live option for 10 and has now
been replaced by someone who only plays 10, meanwhile another
excellent international 15 who can play 10 is fit again and
available for England. It's safe to say that barring a major
change in form or injury, his chances of being more than a bit
part player for a while are quite thin

Now look 'ere. If you use evocative terminology, it remains in
the ear of the beholder to translate it to suit themselves.
Like Cat Stevens says, "there are no words I can use, because
the meaning still leaves for you to choose"..
Ramble over.

Unless one of Smith's Grandparents is of French origin he cannot
play for France - residency qualifications are only on the first
nation you play for, any switch after 3 years has to be to a
country of heritage.
Smith has been treated poorly by Borthwick from our eyes because
we see him only as a 10 who can cover 15 in an emergency - or
maybe that is only my opinion. We have seen this season that he
can play the role Borthwick wants - Sarries game particularly -
but either he or quins in general haven't done it consistently
or well enough for him to be selected over Fin Smith. While the
weather in Edinburgh looks to be dry and cold on Saturday, the
next couple of days look very wet and so I imagine it will be a
very conservative approach taken by England, so this may have
come into it too.

If HRH makes him a ridiculous offer he might be tempted after
the next RWC.

Is anyone suggesting he might play for the French national team?

That, my armoured friend, is the crux for me.

He also said "...a lot of nice things turn bad out there", which
could describe Marcus' England career.
