Marcus’s mistake was to run the ball out from inside the England
22 weaving and dodging his way past several hapless Welsh and
gaining many metres. This is not the England way, he should have
just hoofed it up back up field to the men in red.

Just when we thought he was starting to get it as a coach. Oh
well. On the plus side, if it all goes knockers up, Marcus can't
       get tarnished.

Be interesting to see how England manage if a back three player
or centre has to come off early.
Can Ben Earl really play centre at test match level for 75mins
plus, and the same question with Pollock or Spencer on the wing.
       I'm not so sure.

They wouldn’t necessarily have to. Assuming it’s Steward who
gets injured: Freeman to wing, Arundell to 15, Smith to 12.
And I’d guess if needed Spencer to 9 and Mitchell to the wing.

No Quins in the 23 hardly a surprise with the way our season is
going, and no doubt Borthwick reckons Fin Smith will link well
with his club mates, of which there are many in the squad. So it
goes. I do find it frustrating that Marcus spends so much time
bench warming and thereby not being available for Quins when we
could really do with having him.
Honestly, if I was him, I might be starting to wonder about a
move to France as Borthwick clearly doesn't rate him.

I'd be more than happy with Fin there if there was a chance he'd
       play 10.
Why do people think he can play 12? He's never started a match
       there, he's a career fly half and I can't imagine he's spent a
meaningful amount of time in the position. It is different to
       playing 10.

It must be something that the coaches have practiced in training
scenarios. Borthwick has got most things right of late. So I'm
happy to go with it. I guess Arrundal would go to full back if
Steward goes down injured. I would love that, it's got to be his
long term position when IFW come back from injury. Imagine the
pace of a back three with those two and Roebuck and his skil
       set.

He clearly does rate him or he wouldn’t pick him.
I think I’ve added this up right that he’s been in 34/38 match
day squads (ignoring last Summer’s tour)

That logic says he rates him as a 15. Or as the second/third
best option. But not as the first choice fly half.
Ford will not be the best pick at 10 for the next World Cup.
That's next year, by the way. 20 months out, the world's top
teams are evolving, and England are slapping themselves on the
back after beating Wales, who looked like they'd struggle
       against the Quins À team.
There's always a danger of losing when you try players and
combinations when the established pick is working ok, but is in
it's twilight. But the time to take that gamble is now. In the
big scheme of things, the 6N matters less than RWC, if England
       really think they're contenders.
