One other interesting point from the evening was that the
standard of BUCS Super Rugby has progressed so far from Dommers'
days (for which he got some gentle ribbing) that the club now
regards BUCS as closest standard to Prem/PWR rugby for both men
and women.
That's not a surprise for women's rugby, where the next adult
level is essentially amateur, but it is a surprise that BUCS is
now seen as better than Champ rugby.

A question was asked in a previous thread about Academy players
going to uni. A decent number of Tuesday's U19s team seem to
currently also be playing BUCS

As I understand it, in a DoR structure the DoR is in charge of
all things rugby - both coaching itself and rugby operations
(which includes hiring and developing coaches, player
recruitment, medical / physio / S&C staff, and I believe also
also facilities, travel etc).
In a GM structure, the GM is responsible for all the rugby
operations but doesn’t get involved in the coaching itself,
leaving the Head Coach to focus on coaching and nothing else.
Quins have tended to have most success when closer to a GM
model. Although COS was nominally a DoR, a lot of his focus was
on the systems around the coaching (and if you look at his roles
before and since his focus has always been on the bigger
picture, even with Italy) and in JK he had a very strong Head
Coach who did most of the actual coaching… and was ultimately
not suited to being a DoR.
Millard and now Sanger occupy that GM role, so Quins are looking
for someone who wants to be a pure Head Coach. Which is probably
why Gatland (who would have wanted control of the whole picture)
rules himself out.
