I suppose a player can't really prepare for rare black swan
events. I mean, what are the chances of a winger getting chipped
over and having to turn and accelerate to deal with it?

Standing still and getting chipped, no winger is going to
recover from that, a better question would be what was the
fullback doing, as in theory they should be covering for that
eventuality.
Murley had a few other more worrying issues during the match
than this one.

He chooses to run JvP wide to buy time for the cover, something
that happens very regularly in this sport you barely watch. He's
not racing him and he'd lose from a standing start facing the
wrong way because being prepared does not change the laws of
physics.
Unless you're suggesting that as JVP ran towards him he
should've just turned around and started running

Have you ever played, a winger will try to manipulate the
attacker towards the line, and if they then chip the winger,
there should be cover behind them, even if not, they have to
regather and rely on the luck of the bounce.
What are you suggesting turning and running back to the try
line, which is perhaps not the best idea.
Murley did what he should have done, applying pressure and JvP
executed perfectly, defending then goes to the cover.

Realistically, to win the World Cup, we're going to have to beat
them and getting near parity up front will be needed. I accept
its no easy task. I just think Fasogbon might be better suited
then say Sela or Heyes.

It makes sense to have Heyes, because we need an experienced,
solid choice for the 6N. We can't afford to have our scrum just
collapse. I think Sela has plenty of potential. At the U20s,
both he and Fasogbon were tearing it up and destroying opposing
teams. It's going to take time for both of them to level up to
senior level, but I think they both have that potential.

My problem is that Murley jogged back after being chipped.
You're right that he wouldn't have caught JvP, but there was no
guarantee that JvP would reach the line. If he'd been tackled,
then Murley wouldn't have been in position to deal with the next
phase. This isn't a "Murley did something uniquely bad" but it
was symptomatic of the whole team turning off for long periods.

I'd expect a short winger with aspersions of test class and
alleged world class acceleration to do better. At the very least
I'd expect them not to give up the chase and just watch the try
unfold.

If memory serves, Sela was the preferred choice* but got injured
so Alo got more game time. Either way, one could probably argue
that the RFU's front row school is working

Murley's acceleration can never beat the speed with which you'll
move the goalposts. He's not trying to race him, you doofus,
because he's not an idiot and he knows that having been
committed with such a late chip the only thing he can do is try
and slow JvP down.
This is classic Toga - pick a Quins player to mock, then reverse
engineer something you then see in highlights to try and back up
your point no matter how unrelated. Shame the highlights don't
show Murley repeatedly gassing the Tigers defence but that's the
danger when you don't actually watch much rugby eh

More likely because Murley didn't gas the Leicester wingers any
more than he has gassed Segun previously. I know this because
he's not top end rapid. Turns out he's also slow on the turn.
All he does quickly is give up the chase.
Nice moustache though.
