After being relieved of his NZ duties.
This is the man quins should be focussing on bringing in. There
has never been a better fit available.
Let’s hope Nick Evans can work some magic. Give him a 5 year
contract, fresh start and sign him immediately.

Wow! That's a remarkable stain on his record though, ousted by a
player revolt after only 2 years!
I wonder what went so wrong, I'm sure there will be some
book/exposé to tell us in the next couple of years.
Do we think he'd be a good fit for Quins? You can't argue with
his record at the Crusaders.

I think he's worth a look! (definitely worth a look!) but...
The Prem is a different experience to the NZ setup.
I hope someone would ask "you have the best fly half in England.
However the England management insist on playing him as a full
back. They want you to play him at full back. What would your
answer be?".
He's not had to work within a salary cap.
He's not had to work where the national team and Prem management
are as much adversaries as fellow travellers.
He's unlikely to be able to bring in his own coaching team, we
usually dump the old coaches on the new manager and expect the
to harmonise.

I think personality wise he's the best fit for us, he's all
about empowering players to play to their strengths and making
everyone enjoy their rugby. The Saders were not a soft touch
under him though and he absolutely got them playing do-or-die
rugby. They always had a strong pack, won a lot of battles up
front, and scored a lot of tries from counter-attacks. He got
more out of Richie Mo'unga than the national team got near to
doing, and I think that's not a bad equivalent for Marcus's
situation. But it's difficult to know how well he could instil a
winning culture at Quins given the strengths of the Crusaders
setup.
In terms of the ABs I think he's made some very silly selection
decisions in recent matches, but I don't think the ABs have the
same class of player available to them that they're so used to.
I'd argue that they wasted time on players like Finlay Christie,
Quinn Tupaea, Billy Proctor, etc and messed around high-impact
players like Fainga'anuku, but it's not like there's anyone in
the class of Nonu or SBW or Whitelock or Retallick or Thorn or
Conrad Smith or Ben Smith just waiting in the wings. They have a
tranche of older players who've been there and done it
(MacKenzie, Beauden Barrett, Codie Taylor, Anton Lienert-Brown,
etc) but none of them are anywhere near as good as they used to
be and the alternatives are largely a bit pants. They have a
handful of genuinely excellent younger players like Will Jordan,
Wallace Sititi, Josh Lord, and Cam Roigard, along with the world
class Ardie Savea, but a whole lot of "eh" players on top of
that. And for once there's not a huge number of
international-class Kiwis playing overseas; a few like Goodhue
might have improved the side but we're still not talking the
equivalent of SA losing Esterhuizen or de Allende.
I can see why he's left, NZ were obviously heading in the wrong
direction and if the players were unhappy with preparation and
planning then that's a black mark. I'd love to know what was
different between the ABs and the Crusaders. It's not like the
NZ setup is anything like England's, the ABs have all the pull
and everything is set up to make them succeed.

Charlie Morgan in the Telegraph also talking positively about
our interest in him.

The ABs are rumoured to be after Rennie. I didn’t expect
Robertson to be available, but he seems to be a guy who excels
at setting a good culture but needs strong technical coaches to
execute. Quins have a good set of technical coaches but haven’t
found the right guy to lead the culture. Definitely worth
exploring.

Robertson would be a good fit. Good pedigree as a head coach at
club level. New set of eyes, no previous loyalties to
anyone...ideal.
