No-one can possibly play at their best in the kind of
environment that we currently see at Quins, Yareet. Even world
class players can look pretty awful if they're not set up to
succeed. It's a team sport. I disagree with MQ that it's a sign
of a lack of buy-in, because I think it's a sign of a lack of
clear leadership and coaching, but ultimately we're saying the
same thing.
And to counter myself slightly, while I don't think Kenningham
is playing as though he lacks confidence, I frankly don't see
how any Quins player could be confident right now with the
exception of the "nothing to lose" youngsters like Hobson. It's
been well over a year of copping humiliations and being
completely outplayed, out-thought, and out-coached most weeks,
with a few brief highlights to remind them that they're better
than that. These guys are human.
It seems pretty obvious to me when certain players get
negatively impacted by England. Marcus is the big one, it was
extremely easy to see him move away from his natural game and
start second guessing himself. Other players aren't anywhere
near England and have their own issues with confidence, be it
confidence in their own bodies or confidence in their natural
game; some of that is unavoidable (injuries) and some is a
coaching / management problem; some is just... attitude, I
guess. Cleaves is a good example here. I'd also add David, who
weirdly has been freed up in recent weeks and is at least
showing his attacking game to go with his defensive flaws.
It's not like we haven't seen it from other teams before. It
just doesn't usually happen for such an extended period of time.
Even Saints last season were messing the bed quite often and
losing matches they absolutely should have won - they had a bit
of a horror run in the league.

This! Sadly I think Kenners is the same as WEv, excellent in the
Prem but not quite big enough, fast enough etc to break through
to the England back row. Neil Back was an exception in a
different era, today the back row for England is stacked, and
sadly I don't think he will get that call. Better Quins put an
arm around him, and WEv, and embrace the quality they provide
week in, week out, as possibly the best poaching pair in the
Prem.

Have no memory if that was me, but I do think that had been a
feeling with supporters 2021-23.
Think since the start of that 6Nations, I personally feel he's
had probably had ample opportunity to impress for the longer
term. Irony being that he had some very decent moments in the
2025 Argentina tour.

Yes.
That tends to be what happens when the feedback you're getting
is that the coaches rate you but also want you to be a
completely different kind of player.
