with the squad we have i'm shocked to hear we are spending up to
the salary cap. it doesn't make sense given the players who have
left vs the ones that have come in...

Andres contract was bought out and we lost Marler half a season
sooner than expected…where did that money (and saves wages) go??

Fascinating interview and respect to Laurie for fronting up.
Clearly someone who cares about the club.
My key takeaways from that are that he sees two major areas
where we have fallen down over the last few years. First,
coaching, especially head coach, instability. Second, not
ensuring a better transition for academy players into the first
XV. These have led to a squad which is not right for the
gameplan, also because as the gameplan keeps changing.
Seems like everyone from the owners down wants to keep the Quins
DNA/identity. They want to take the time needed to ensure the
right coaching setup is there. Reading between the lines, the
situation of all the current coaches is being looked at (not
short term but I think for next season). Equally the squad
       composition needs to change.
Financially the owners are committed. We were on target to break
even in the current financial year (excluding capital
investment) but the lower attendance at the BG might make that
       difficult.
In the short term (this season) he thinks there are improvements
that could be made but my take is that it wouldn't include
coaching group changes. Interesting that the senior players sat
down with the owners and management recently for three hours.

I have a lot of time for Laurie and glad he’s fronted up too but
I’m not sure how to feel about the actual content of what he
says. The DNA thing seems to be sacrosanct and he thinks the
right people will cause it to work. Is that realistic? We have
a reputation of being Fancy Dan’s who win the occasional trophy
but not as a consistently strong side. Is that our DNA and we
are settling for that? It’s obviously better than our current
form but maybe the game has moved on. Saints played great rugby
but it was built on aggressive and structured defence. Is that
part of our DNA now? If not, are we going back to trying to
just out score everyone - which worked for half a season. What
actually is this DNA and is it fit for purpose? Apparently we
       aren’t changing it.

To me, the DNA thing would mean we played like Saints on
Saturday. I don't see that as unachievable or too much to ask or
unrealistic. They can do it, why can't we?

Communication from the club is welcome, and credit to Dalrymple
for finally fronting up — that should have happened much sooner.
That said, many of the issues raised are long-standing and
ultimately the result of board-level decision-making. After
repeated errors around coaching appointments, succession
planning, and recruitment, it’s fair to ask: why is Laurie still
the right person to lead the club forward? Where is the evidence
he can deliver the next phase when the current one has so
clearly failed? A few things he said I have serous gripes with…
Allowing a head coach to leave on secondment without full
clarity on potential future international commitments was basic
negligence. Regardless of what Wales said, I would not let any
coach go without clarity and assurances on next steps after.
Supporters were also told — in previous meetings — that we were
working to a clear three-year plan. What happened to it? If it
existed, it should have answered the recruitment and succession
questions now being asked, not left us reacting mid-season.
It’s equally alarming that recruitment for next season appears
to be ongoing with no clarity on who the head coach will be.
That is not strategy — it’s guesswork.
We’re also told we are spending to the full salary cap, yet when
compared to Bath and Northampton — who reportedly aren’t — the
quality and balance of our squad falls well short. If true, that
points to serious failings in contract management and squad
       construction.
I also think we give our players far too much say in decisions.
I don’t believe they deliberately choose easy options when
asked, but many simply do not have the experience or leadership
of figures like Care, Marler, and Brown — players the club
previously empowered to step up and drive standards. That
leadership void is now obvious due to youngness and lack of
       experience.
Communication is a start. What supporters need now is
accountability, proof of competence at the top, and a clear,
credible plan — not more explanations after the damage is done.
