Tony Rowe has been a real breath of fresh air when it comes to
Rugby.
No doubt he needs to retire, relax a bit and cut down his
spending.
Met him a few times, decent bloke and very pasionate about the
Club and the game in general.

I wonder if the future of rugby lies with rich owners. Or is
there a possibility of fan owned clubs, via share structure. If
so, I'm sure Quins would have no shortage of fans happy to dip
into their pockets.

Rowe is positing that the future holds Investors owning Rugby
franchises. Quite how that squares with Exeter being "owned" by
the Members I am not sure?

I'm a big fan of companies that are structured through the
Employee Owned Trust model. I've often thought a structure along
similar lines adapted specifically for professional revenue
generating sports clubs would be an interesting method to use.

He who pays the Piper calls the tune methinks. If the "Members"
are contributing financially on an equal basis then great.
Otherwise the "Membership" is worth about as much as a chocolate
teapot.

I'm not saying it does. I'm just throwing out there a thought
that's occurred to me previously.
Obviously you could buy Quins with the loose change down the
back of your chaise longue, Dangly... ;)

Actually producing any revenue from a Prem rugby club has not
been done since before Covid, and you need someone or a company
to provide a parachute if something unexpected comes along, and
at present to absorb the losses that everyone is experiencing.
He is explaining why a franchise system is needed, to encourage
investment.

Lack of revenue/profit is what's likely to deter many people
(understandably). Which is why fans may be an alternative
option. They are less likely to care as it's "their" club.

Not convinced, if you had 2500 people who owned a club and the
club lost £3.5m, that would be £1400 each, in addition to the
normal season ticket costs.
Most employee owned companies make a profit most years, and have
more assets than debts, also would you be able to buy more than
one share in the club, how is the club run, how are decesions
made, again so called employee run companies don't let them
really run the company.
People may not like it but a franchise system is the way
forward.
