Surely Gustard actually has no serious track record as a Head
Coach? 4 months at The Harlequins with variable results would
make it a heck of a chance for any team to take him on based on
that experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving what's happening
at The Harlequins and I'm really impressed with what is going
on, but could you really take your proposal to the club board to
hire this man?

Everything up to the bit in bold is more or less fair (I
personally find what Blucher spouts to be mostly
accurate/valid). However, the bit in bold...
This just isn't how journalism works - don't be so easily
suckered in just because journalists are the easiest targets on
the planet, you're in danger of requiring a blond toupee. I
worked at the BBC for 4 years and the Beeb is by no means
perfect, but the amount of effort the journalists exert on a
daily basis to try and present an unbiased truth in as balanced
a way as possible is frankly bizarre given how much stick they
constantly get from all corners (I always find it funny how the
right find it to be liberal hogwash and the left find it to be
Tory propaganda - can it be both?! That's a discussion for
another day.) The point is they tirelessly do their best and if
I'd ever been one of them I'd have thrown my towel in early
doors.
Now obviously TRP has nowhere near the kind of infrastructure
that Auntie has at its disposal but journos don't just sit at a
desk and concoct whatever comes to the top of their head that
day. "Oh, I know. Gustard was a Tiger. They're struggling. Let's
just say Tigers have approached him." Doesn't happen like that.
These people have sources - friends on the inside with
information. When they receive information they then look to
corroborate it. Simple as that. 99% of the time there's truth to
what's coming through. What happens next is anyone's guess -
they're not claiming to be Mystic Meg. They print the
gossip/situation as it is on that day, end of story.
Whether or not Gustard wants to go is another thing but I can be
almost certain there was some truth to the claim that Tigers
were going to have a go for him. Hopefully now that he's come
out and said what he said they won't bother.

Probably Ben Kay with his Tigers Director hat on talking to his
BT sport microphone!

So — will TRP provide anything to back up their claims, do you
think, or will they just scurry off under a rock somewhere, tail
between legs (wildly mixing my metaphors, though I suppose both
could be true, anatomically-speaking)? Basically, either TRP is
telling porky pies or Gustard is... Not sure there are any other
options. Which is it to be Mr Fissler?

Was it on their SN board? The journos hae trawled ours for
stories before.
As for Auntie being unbiased ROFLMAO

It was curious that there was no coach's contribution in the
e-mail from the club today about last weekend's match. Made me
wonder... Tons of items about the (I'm sure very important)
girls' match, but half the number about the men's match.

Im not sure anyone is. Would not surprise me at all if Tigers
made an approach for PG, and he/we have turned around and said
no thanks. I think the confusion comes from people reading the
headline and taking it as gospel he is going, when all the
headline really said was that Tigers asked us to name our price.
Nothing about what the response from Quins was. As said
elsewhere, just because they (may) have asked does not mean he
was going. If, as the rugby paper said, the approach came last
week, plenty of time for Tigers to be told clear off, then all
sides just come out and say "its not true, he isnt going to
Tigers.

no, I just think they asked him "are you interested" (if there
was an offer). He, has said no so we carry on. No need to offer
him anything, he has a contract

And what very poor manners you have but never mind.
I didn’t say put out a press release (for a start it’s not 1974
so they really aren’t relevant).
But also it’s not like they’re responding to someone saying the
catering isn’t very good - that indeed would follow the pattern
you mention. However your huge high profile DoR being approached
to leave does, indeed, merit a response - which is why they did
exactly the current PR way of responding to it which is to wait,
watch the way the coverage goes and then address it.
Perhaps you think the timing of the Gustard Q&A is simply
fortuitous and they just happened to have a chance to address
the story without looking like they felt it was urgent enough to
do so.
Or maybe he was always going to be doing a video Q&A between two
second rate European fixtures.
Gustard has not said he wasn’t approached, he’s said he’s happy
af Quins.
Tigers also didn’t say they didn’t approach him and given your
theory if it wasn’t a story why didn’t they ignore it as opposed
to rushing out?
I don’t read the Rugby Paper, coz who cares frankly, and don’t
know anything about Fissler. But he’s got far more to lose by
totally inventing stories and doubling down when they’re denied
than by not making it up in the first place.
Thanks again for your charming response.
