Perhaps he will sign up when we play Tigers away on 21st
December?

No indeed. But makes it no less of a story.

If he wasn't considering it then Quins would have come right out
and denied it straight away as soon as the story hit the press,
surely, to avoid the speculation and disruption to the team's
preparation (last week? and now this week?) that it would be
causing. That said, it's bizarre that Quins have also not
commented about Codling. Maybe locked in negotiations with the
lawyers about the size of the severance package (as part of a
compromise agreement)? But that, too, seems odd, that Gustard
would demand the sacking of Codling at the very moment he's
leaving himself.

Most employment contracts have a 3 or 6 month period before it
becomes an issue of notice, payments etc it can be severed by
either side with virtually no notice.

At the end of the day, there is no obligation for Quins to come
out and confirm/deny anything. I would be very surprised if it
had not been spoken/addressed internally between coaches/players
etc, but as for the rest of the world, currently there is no
story. The disruption (if there is any) could come down to the
fact that he may be off, not because the squad are being kept in
the dark.
As for the ITKs, they do get a great deal correct, but also a
great deal incorrect. TRP reported a few weeks ago were were in
talks to sign Matevesi from Pirates, they then ran a story
saying he had signed and was a Quin. Few weeks later Pirates
announce he has signed a 2 year deal........with them!!!!

Well, here's Gussie's response:

For those who can't follow the link, this is what he says:
Ridiculous. Nonsense. I'm unbelievably happy at
Harlequins to leave England wasn't a decision I made lightly but
the only place I wanted to come was to Harlequins. I'm loving
it, I'm enjoying it. I've been well received by the supporters,
the boys have been responding well to what we've been doing, and
it's just the beginning, the start of our journey
together.
So he's leaving next week then...
Seriously though, good that he's answered that personally and
not in a corporate-speak written statement. I think to have left
the England set-up a year out from a world cup, then only stay
for a season with us - would taint him with a "wandering" tag
that only a lengthy shift at Tigers would remove - and fixing
them is not a short-term project.
Still, the story may well be accurate - Tigers are free to
enquire I suppose. Would be nice now to put one over on them in
a week or so time.

What utter rubbish you spout.
The reason Quins didn't comment on it is because if you start
putting out releases denying every untrue story (and there are a
lot) you trap yourself into a cycle of having to respond to
drivel.
I suspect that Quins took the "tomorrow's fish wrapper" approach
and saw that the Leicester Chairman quickly disavowed the story.
Why make it up? Easy - rugby doesn't generate enough real news
/ mindshare to support TRP so the journos do the classic sports
desk thing of "embellishing" to fill the space.
