Eh? We had little option but to rely on him more than we wanted
to, and he was a high point.
What he needs is some specialist coaching on his kicking game,
which was never a huge strength of NEv's either.

NEV wasn’t too bad at drop goals when required! When he first
came to us before injuries he was a good kicker, but it
deteriorated over the years.

He’s not turned into a bad player, he is having a bad run of
form. I think if DC had been there he would not have kicked
because he would not have got the ball.
He does kick aimlessly quite a bit which is why I think Lang
starts ahead of him.

There are some fairly hysterical people on here. Smith is young
and inexperienced. He's played some great rugby for us but also
had a few howlers and not in great form at the moment. Like the
whole team, he's rather inconsistent at the moment. He kicked
away poorly, but the team had been pretty average up to that
point, including plenty of more experienced players. He's not
currently beauden barritt, but he's also not Jeremy Staunton

I am certain Marcus will be a fantastic player one day.
Problem he is is still a kid playing against seasoned pros
We have a very serious problem at 10 with no one up to prem
standard - whoever is in charge this has to be sorted for next
season

He will absolutely but we're not giving him time at the moment.
We really desperately need an experienced 10 if the Cat is as
affected by that injury or whatever the reason is for his poor
performances.

Couldn't agree more we have two talented prospects in Smith and
Lang , who will benefit from the wisdom of Nick Evans , but that
is no substitute for being close up to an experienced 10 and
watching him manage situations .
Baxter uses Simmons at Chiefs and has Steenson to bring on and
close out.
The hope was always for these guys to learn from Catrakillis but
that isn't working out ( Id be happy if hed get back in the
saddle , but I fear his confidence is shot to bits ) and I am
concerned we will demoralise one of both of these young guys if
the lack of an available and experienced 10 isn't addressed.
