What has happened?
- gone from apprentice to zero in the England team
- dropped from Quins first choice to bench
- nearly lost the Exeter game
- lost the Treviso game
Someone posted he was the new Botica. They could be right.

He is having a difficult time. However, I still rate him and am
still excited about a lot of what he does. I am even more
excited about his potential. As was said on the match thread, he
needs our backing and support so that he can play with
confidence, and not let fear creep into his game.
I wonder if Gussy might start him next week at home, trusting
that we will cheer him on.

The kid is only 19. He has had a lot put on his shoulders. I
think the coaching staff need to give him some time in the
reserves. We have seen him help win games with his talent but he
has made some big mistakes aswell.

Quins were 6 points down when he came on and lost by 7 points.
Think the responsibility for that lies with 22 other players as
much as Marcus Smith.
Where was the senior leadership for the last 3 minutes after
Quins drew? Nowhere.
Where was the cover to defend from 45 yards out after Smith
kicked? Nowhere.
Smith will be a much better player for these tough experiences,
and he'll get there quicker with Quins fans supporting him
through the tough days and not just the easy ones.

Under different (more typical) circumstances he would still be
in the academy and be as well known as Cadan Murley and Niall
Saunders.

Marcus is a fantastic talent who needs to be nurtured & managed
. Not sure the current coaching team have grasped that concept
quite yet but hope for all concerned that they do.

Much as I think Smith should only have come out of the academy
this year and blame Jones 100% for forcing the situation -
you’re talking about the coaching team as if they don’t know
anything, same in your post on the other thread.
Who would you have instead? Or at least how do you justify the
idea we should get rid of the current coaches or the idea that
they wouldn’t know how to coach a young player?

I think quite often we forget that Smith is only 19 and that he
was propelled into the starting 10 spot rather quickly due to
injuries, he may not have been ready but for a young man
controlling a team he did remarkably well. He may not be having
a great season by the standards he set last season but with
nurturing I am sure he will become a class 10, we are lucky to
have Smith and Lang competing for the 10 shirt and given
confidence I am hopeful Cat can compete.

Totally put the blame at JKs door, threw him in far too deep far
too early, and he mostly sank!! God I hope he comes good!!!
