Maybe we should think of the CEO as more of a FD and leave the
Rugby to a proper good old fashioned DoR witha lot more say over
how things are done. A la Fergy.

That's probably how it should be. We don't hear much about the
rugby side of things from LD or others and without a proper Head
Coach or DOR to me the whole rugby side comes across as
listless. Vacuum's leave gaps for rumour and speculation and I
do think the club is doing itself few favours on that front. I
quite like that our owners aren't front and centre the whole
time like Bruce Craig, formerly Wray etc but they do seem to be
totally behind the scenes.
I'm not sure getting rid of LD will do anything to change on the
pitch fortunes. This just seems a bit "he's in charge so he can
go" because we (probably fairly) feel that someone should take
some accountability for increasingly abject performances of the
past couple of years.
I don't have a problem with what's going on off the pitch. As a
club I think we do more than most to broaden the appeal of the
game and get bums on seats. I know lots moan about fireworks and
bands they don't like at Big Game etc but it's naff all in the
grand scheme of things but adds a bit of a sense of occasion.
Probably too much when it's middle of the day but hey ho. The
social media stuff is necessary in this day and age, doesn't
detract at all. We're top of the revenue table, which is where
I'd see LD's main role to be. It's what happens beyond that
which has been a bit of a mess and where the whole board should
take responsibility and are hopefully sorting it out behind the
scenes.
For me, the DOR/Head Coach role is critical. And no, not Diamond
just because he's available and will shout a bit.;)

The latest Ruck podcast is worth a listen. They say a few hard
truths about Quins. The myth that there is a 'Quins way' to
play.

It's good that our finances are better than many, that the
women's game is going well, and that we have lots of good stuff
around the club. But the rugby is the core of the club, and if
the men's game is going really badly, the CEO needs to be on top
of it. He needs to be driving the appointment of the right
coaches (maybe he is; he doesn't have to give a running
commentary on everything that's happening). But if we don't
appoint a good head coach and/or director of rugby by the end of
the season, it's right to question the CEO's competence.
Everything else should be subsidiary to the rugby, and right
now, I'd give us a 50% score on that, at best, as our women are
third by the men 8th in their respective leagues.

I would be interested to know how many of you with strong
opinions about he CEO's role have any experience of being part
of the senior leadership of a large sports club or even a a
major multi-divisional organisation, or whether you are just
giving us (as Mitchell and Webb had it) the full majesty of your
uninformed reckon?
Because while I can understand the frustration, it seems
excessive to me to make it personal about people whose job
descriptions you aren't party to and therefore don't have any
basis for critiquing.

You can't criticise a movie because you're not a director.
You can't criticise a book because you're not a writer.
You can't criticise a song because you're not a musician.
You can't criticise a CEO because you're not C-suite.

the first thing I’d do, and then bring in a proper head coach
who’s experienced (and not someone promoted above their ability,
which we’ve done with Kingston, Gustard, matson and Wilson). New
coaching set up, new vision. The squad isn’t bad, but we haven’t
got a good leadership team on the field so that also needs
addressing with some good recruitment as I don’t think anyone in
the team is capable of really being the Vos or Robshaw we need

an exit planned and coaching if it was down to me. I personally
don't think it would come to that though as most would want to
avoid having that on their CV. If the option was one or the
other and that's it, then I'd have the coaching set up go. I
think a new CEO with a new vision is most important for the long
run though, and ideally one with a rugby background who then can
oversee a new coaching team in place. Both new CEO/Coaching set
up will be needed for proper change though, as lets face it
we've interviewed and given the top coaching job to 4 candidates
who weren't good enough for that role so the CEO during that
periods judgement has to be questioned.

Pretty much bang on the money with that, you only have to look
at other industries if there are probems there is much calling
for heads to roll and that starts at the top.
Unless the CEO gets his head out of his backside and starts
giving out P45's owing to dross that is being served up, then it
falls clearly on him.
The whip does not need to be cracked, it's needs to used with
force - hard n fast.
You can't tell me that genuine supporters and those that care
about the game are preparred to put up with this any longer.
