Harlequins have made three changes to the starting XV as they
welcome Bristol Bears to Allianz Stadium for Big Game 17 on
Saturday (20 December, KO 18:00).
The Gallagher PREM is back with a bang this weekend as the
Quarters are set to light up the Home of England Rugby with the
17th instalment of Big Game - the biggest annual club rugby
event in the world.
Quins have opted to make three changes to the team that
emphatically beat Aviron Bayonnais in the Investec Champions
Cup, all of which come in the pack.
Harry Williams returns to the front row at tighthead to pack
down alongside Fin Baxter at loosehead and Jack Walker, who is
set to make his 100th appearance for Harlequins on the big
stage.
Kieran Treadwell comes into the engine room in place of Stephan
Lewies to partner Guido Petti Pagadizábal.
Meanwhile, Jason Gilmore has listed an abrasive back row for
Saturday's match-up as Chandler Cunnignham-South comes in to
start at Number 8. Zach Carr shifts to the blindside after an
impressive run of form, with Jack Kenningham starting at
openside.
Will Porter and Marcus Smith continue their flourishing
partnership in the half-backs, with Luke Northmore and Oscar
Beard combining the in the centres once more.
Cadan Murley will lead the side out and start on the left, with
Cassius Cleaves set for his first Big Game appearance on the
right. Nick David retains his spot at full-back after an
impressive display in Europe last week.
Jason Gilmore has opted for a five-three split with his
replacements. Double try scorer, Sam Riley is named as
replacement hooker alongside props, Will Hobson and Pedro
Delgado.
Joe Launchbury and Will Evans will be looking to make an impact
when introduced at HQ, alongside Lucas Friday, Ben Waghorn and
the returning Rodrigo Isgró.

Good team. Interesting to see Carr getting the nod again. I'm a
bit surprised to see Riley and Hobson getting bench spots over
Turner and Wenger, who are internationals.

Good squad, especially considering who's unavailable. Odd that
there's no fly half cover given both Benson and JEv would appear
to be available. I wonder who would play there if Marcus had to
go off.

They may be carrying niggles or the club may be managing
workload - Enya is on Boxing Day, so I wouldn't be surprised if
they are rotating props to keep them fresh for what's likely to
be a more forward-oriented game.

Okay, I'm going to be irritatingly pedantic, but the commas in
this sentence are a mess, as though someone just threw them at
the page and ran away.

Overall, I like our back row. I've thought in recent seasons
that it's been underpowered, but this is a strong, punchy back
row. I'm a little concerned that the replacements are
potentially weak in the front row and at lock, but otherwise,
we've got a decent shot, even though Bristol look strong.

Strong team. I think Riley is better than some give him credit
for. Hobson is a unit and has really shown up when called upon.
Would be interesting to see him and Baxter packing down together
- many years ahead of that pair.
Bigger concern is the injury list. What's wrong with Tyrone? And
Chis?
