I've heard exactly the same as this. seems like it's happening.
Much like others on this board, i fear this is a bit of a vanity
signing. Cash could be spent much better on other positions.

       I don't know about vanity - he's a fantastic player in a
position of weakness for us, where our only actually good option
has been suffering from injuries and also has almost no kicking
game. He also brings a high quality alternative at 10, and if we
ever did have to shoehorn a player in at 12 a la JEv recently I
think he'd be an excellent option there given his skillset.
If he can stay fit he'd be a huge upgrade. But we don't have a
great track record with players who have injury issues, we're
not a team working miracles on that front. I can absolutely
understand the desire to sign him if he's available because it
makes a lot of sense. Having a fullback of his undoubted quality
at 15 means we can happily pick Tyrone on the wing. It's also
been an inconsistent 18 months or so for Tyrone, and Furbank
       seems an extremely consistent player.
He's also Saints' club captain. We've been crying out for
       leadership.

We have Friday so not sure why we would want Quirke, who is
another injury prone player, and since he signed a contract in
the spring, would he really be moving from Sale.
Would really send the wrong message to Friday and do we want
       four people in that position.

Quite. Porter is like a faster Karl Dickson, and Friday is like
Care without the youthful idiocy. That’s a very good
combination, with the prospect that before too long we will be
able to alternate them depending on what the game demands.
Quirke has a great highlights reel but has struggled to hold
down a starting XV place. I’m also not sure that his style of
play would gel well with Marcus, who essentially needs a scrum
half who will keep defences honest but mostly deliver the ball
when and where he needs it.

Not sure we’ve seen anything like enough to be sure he’s like a
Care. He has a way to go. He’s also a slip of a lad and needs
time to physically mature before gets too much first team game
       time. Done a knee already.
Porter for all his good qualities is also not Care, and is a
reason why we lack threat in attack.

I think we have seen enough to see how Good Friday will be, and
his return from a serious injury underlines it.
Porter is not Care, but neither is Quirke and when did he last
play well, is he as good as he was before his long string of
injuries, Friday is hopefully going to be what Nick Duncombe,
should have been, and that would have been beyond Care in my
       opinion.

I never said Porter was Care. And the comparison between Friday
and Care didn’t just come from me. It’s NEv’s opinion, too. I
think he’s better placed to judge than we are.
FWIW, Friday’s game reminds me of the the young Care in his
speed to the breakdown, the accuracy of his distribution and the
pace he injects into a game. And he seems to have lost none of
that since coming back from his injury.
And also FWIW, Quirke isn’t much like Care, either.

I'd be surprised if we bring in another scrum half. Porter is
very decent, albeit not elite, and Friday looks a real prospect.
Townsend was clearly brought in to bring squad depth and provide
solid prem level experience until such time as Friday is ready.
So unless we're bringing in a proven top quality 9, one who is
clearly better than Porter, as first choice, it makes no sense
for us to dip into the market. And Quirke doesn't fit that bill.
He continues to be second choice to Warr for good reason.

PF you didn’t and I didn’t say you did. Nev has certainly seen
more of him than I have but look, he’s a prospect, great, but
we, mere fans, haven’t seen much of him yet. Yes, he’s sharp and
has a good pass but the rest ……. Not running him down just
saying there’s a way to go.
