29 may not be old, but it isn’t young either. Father time is
undefeated, on that I’m sure we can agree. Sooner or later, it
catches up with every player. I guess you’ve got a greater risk
of that happening with a 30 year old than a 25 year old. And
that’s my only concern.
I hear what you’re saying and you’re right, you’ve named a bunch
of guys playing at a high level into their 30s. But it’s also
true that there are a bunch who don’t. Especially players who
play wing/fullback, where pace is so important.
Furbank may well have 2 or 3 more season before his level starts
to decline. It could even be 4 or 5. But it could happen next
year. His recent spate of injuries could be a sign it’s already
happening. Time will tell.
Presumably, Furbank would command a high wage. Injuries seem
like they could be a problem which, at his age, worries me (I’m
thinking Lewies the last couple of years). I think we’re
unlikely to get more than 2 or 3 good seasons out of him. For
me, the potential payout is not worth the risk that the signing
could flop completely ( if he barely plays because of constant
injury).
I like Tyrone, he’s a good player who suits our style. He blows
a bit hot and cold, but for me he’s a better option than we have
in a lot of other positions. So I’m not a fan of the (potential)
signing. If I was looking to bring in a 15 I would go for a
younger guy who can play back up for a few years and then
surpass Tyrone. That’s just how I would build the squad.
I appreciate the debate and totally get where you’re coming from
though. And I really hope you’re right and we get some good
years out of him, if he does sign.

Is not the yard you lose in your legs gained in your head.
I think the problem is not the quality of the players as you
can’t deny that we have that, it’s getting them to play together
in a fluid winning way. Then add some injuries to make it more
difficult.

I think one to watch elsewhere will be Redshaw, I think he could
genuinely be a contender post RWC. That said Sean Sharpe(I
think?) has had some good reviews and at 19 could develop well
for us. Certainly has gas

Friday will be a quins legend, no doubt. Should be an England
legend too, but I give up with England selection.
