Could also be that they're looking into allegations that Eben
was gouged himself just before the incident. That wouldn't
justify gouging back, but it does ensure that the full picture
is seen amd also that justice is served. I'm not sure how my
comment "hasn't aged well" though. It's been a few days.

No offence intended, I was just alluding to the normal hearing
being on a Tuesday and findings released that night. This just
seems to be getting treated differently than usual.

Hopefully they'll call you as a forensic analyst. Should speed

Not sure it is being treated any differently, they just seemed
unable even after 5 hours to agree.

I'm currently on a high after watching "Sandy" Smith get his
come-uppance in Brisbane so all I can say is perhaps the Boks
are doing a "when in the UK, do as the Saffercens do..."

So, they've given him the lowest sentence they possibly could.
Not convinced that's enough of a penalty.

Maybe the panel saw more evidence than you did?
For my part, I think it was bad. BUT, unlike some who claim his
thumb gouged into the eye socket, I think it made contact but
didn't go inwards. Not condoning it or trying to play it down,
just putting a realistic version of it out there. Some people
are making out that he tried to hook the player's eye out.
As for those claiming he's a career thug, bear this in mind: "It
was his first red card in 141 internationals". These things have
a bearing in the sentencing.
Personally I think he was lucky to get a ban of just 12 weeks.
But I did say I didn't think it we be as harsh as many
predicted... including those calling for a life ban and/or a
prison sentence.

Maybe. Or maybe the repeated SA tantrums about how badly they're
treated paid off.
We'll see when we get the written verdict, because there didn't
look like any mitigation at the time.
