I think the timing had just been off with this. When the RFU
started trying to get him, we were short of centres. In the last
6 months we’ve arguably unearthed 3 with Marchant to return and
Freeman able to play there (and even potentially Farrell if
needed)
By next autumn, I’d hope this is a moot point

Yeah, but van Rensburg would be at 12. Right now, the
competition at 12 is Dingwall, who has been mixed, and Ojomoh,
who to be fair had a really good game last week. Farrell should
be nowhere near 12. Whether van Rensburg gets to play there is
up in the air, but it's still not a position of strength.

And Atkinson played there in the Summer. We have three options
who have shown that they can play there effectively. And they're
three options with different strengths t allow us to adapt to
the oppo.
BvR would be different again (more of a power 12 than the other
3 and less of a playmaker) but he's still a year away from
qualifying.

BvR is a playmaker, too, although not as much one as Ojomoh. He
can cover 10 and has done.
But, yeah, it's good to have options. By next year, maybe even
Waghorn will be an England option if he has a full, good season
from now.
