See in the film, the Paul Bettany character "Uncle" played for
The Harlequins.

Yes, "The Harlequins". That's in the original text of the play
by R C Sherriff. How can I be sure? I still have a copy of that
on my bookshelf because I went to the same school as Sherriff,
and it was one of the plays we studied in English. The character
Osborne (nicknamed Uncle by the other officers) is a
schoolmaster who played "Wing 3" for not only The Harlequins but
also once for England.

I saw the play in the West End in 1972, if you signed up to see
a play from school you got a couple of hours wandering around
the West End afterwards.
It was also covered in the film "Aces High" with Malcolm
McDowell, one of my favourite films.

Also, randomly, in Reach for the Sky, Douglas Bader is referred
to as having played for the Harlequins. Not sure he did play but
may have been offered a trial.

I’ve seen Bader on a documentary about the history of Duxford
wearing his Quins club tie! Pretty sure he did play for Quins.
The film shows Adrian Stoop teaching him how to play golf after
the accident!

On the offy under heritage 1926/35 it says "the club was still
producing a steady stream of players destined for international
honours. ... One player, who may have joined them save for a
terrible flying accident, was Douglas Bader. Adrian Stoop helped
him overcome the loss of his legs."
Which I read means he was a regular in the quarters on the verge
of a white shirt.
