Great news :)
Harlequins are delighted to confirm Ben Waghorn has signed a new
contract at the Club.
The 21-year-old has penned his first senior contract having
progressed through the Club’s Senior Academy pathway after
making his breakthrough season in 2024/25.
Waghorn grew up in the local area, playing his junior rugby at
Chipstead RFC while being schooled at John Fisher, before
joining the Senior Academy ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The inside centre has previously featured for England at
Under-20 level, first gaining experience in the Under-20 Six
Nations where he scored a brace off the bench against Wales,
before playing a key role in England’s triumphant Under-20 World
Championship campaign, starting in the final against France.
In 2024/25, Waghorn broke into the First Team to earn his first
Gallagher PREM and Investec Champions Cup appearances. He scored
his first senior try against Ealing Trailfinders in the PREM
Rugby Cup before finishing a memorable breakaway score against
Saracens at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Waghorn’s
performances in the Quarters saw him named the Club’s Academy
Player of the Season.
He made his first appearance of the season on Friday night as
Quins ran out 45-19 victors over the Scarlets in a mid-season
friendly.
“There is nowhere else I want to be. I love the group of boys we
have here, and I love playing at The Stoop,” said Waghorn.
“I want to be part of a very successful Quins side and I believe
we have the players to achieve that. The environment at the Club
gives me the best opportunity to develop my game, and being part
of a successful team will help me put my best foot forward
towards my future goals, including playing international rugby.
I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Senior Coach, Jason Gilmore added: “Ben is a genuine competitor
who thrives on dominating the contact area and brings real
physical presence to our midfield.
“His work ethic and daily commitment to improving his game stand
out, and he is an exciting young talent with a big future at
this Club.”
